we are officially domestic partners--all we had to do was go to the clerks office in queens, fill out an affidavit, get it notorized, pay 36 dollars and that was it. easy.
(we did it so I could get on his insurance).
In just 4 more days we can get a marriage license.

you know what i found strange? we didn't even have to show anything to prove that we live together. I had gathered the deed to our house, bills, etc.. and we didn't even need it.

I'm a domestic partner too! so Fh's insurance takes me we had to prove we lived together and had an account together

We are domestic partners also we had to show that we lived together though but it was a pretty simple process!!

We also did that last February, so in a few weeks, we'll 'celebrate' our 1 year anniversary as domestic partners!! We went to the Queens office too.... there was this hand-drawn heart in red marker with 'Marriage Licenses' on the door to the office. Very cute

It doesn't. In her case it seems she did it to get on FH insurance. That's why alot of people do it. We were going to do it also for the same reason but never did.

Ummmm....I live in NYC and my FH has a work car that I can't drive until we're married or ' domestic partners.' I thought domestic partners only was an option for gay couples.
I'm so mad I have to wait until 2009 to be able to use the car! It's a tease having a car I can't drive while I get on a horrible greyhound bus to leave NYC.
Tell me more about the 'domestic partnership.' We've been living together for almost 3 yrs....so i think that should count!

Why can't you drive his car? I don't get it. You've driven friends' cars before and your parents', no?

You can't get a marriage license until 30 days before the wedding from what the Hempstead clerk told FH and I... the license is only good for 30 days from the day you get it.

That's funny...when we registered w/ Suffolk County we had to bring 6 million documents with us....lease, letter from bank verifying joint acct, letter from retirement people showing he is my benificary, our licenses showing we have the same address.....it was nuts!
