We just bought a Dyson! **** UPDATE!****

We got the Animal model...it's purple! Finally my days of looking at husky fur embedded in the carpets are finally over (I hope!)

I'll give a full report once DH wakes up and I can use it! YIPPEE!!!

They're $499. We got it at Sears this morning...it was 10% off between 7-9am (thanks Jonn ) and since we bought it in NH we paid no sales tax. Grand total = $449.99!!!

They have them on amazon.com right now...free shipping plus $25 off with the code. So it would be about $475 total.

Congrats, Dyson is a great vac. They are one of our clients at work so I'm getting the DC11 for half the price!!!

I've been cleaning all day! I filled the chamber twice vacuuming just the hallway between our rooms. (We have a VERY hairy dog!) It took me a little while to figure out how to use all the attachments...the instructions were crap. But I've got the hang of it now and I LOVE it.
Not sure if it's worth $500 yet. If it still works this well in 6 months than it was definitely worth it.

UPDATE: We're returning the vac after only having it for 2 weeks. It is definitely not worth $500. It won't even pick up dog hair....which, considering it is an 'ANIMAL' vacuum, makes it worthless to me.
The attachments are cool and easy to use. It worked great on upholstery and getting cobwebs off the ceiling. But I bought it for the sole purpose of getting all that white fur out of my rugs.

We've decided to exchange it for an equally priced Kenmore Canister. We have borrowed one from a friend and it works wonderfully on fur. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

awww sorry to hear that it didn't work on your rug. i would tell them its not worth 500 if it cant pick up dog fur and vaccum that much should be able to do just that.

Sorry the Dyson did not work out for you.
I have a Kenmore Canister and love it. I dont have any pets (well, I do have a cat at my parents) so when I move, I can really put Kenmore to the test.
Thank you for letting us know about the Dyson. I was thinking of looking into it, but not for $500.
