we want a dog

Has anyone adopted for North shore animal league? Are they really strict there? Can we leave the same day with a dog?

If anyone knows of someone that is giving away a dog that needs a good home please FM ME

we got a dog from the north shore animal league. we had to give a donation of at least 50 dollars, and we were able to take home our puppy the same day. but i just have to say that was nearly 10 years ago.

Fh and i went there to get a kitten about 3 yrs ago, and they still had the same thing....give a donation, take home a kitten...but we didn't end up taking anything home that day...

We haven't adopted a dog from there, but we adopted 2 kittens (2 years ago, and again 7 months ago) First, to answer your question, you CAN take the animal home that day!

They were VERY helpful! Wonderful to deal with! They call you up just once to see how the pet is adjusting in their new home. My first cat was fine, but when we brought home the second, the 2 cats had a hard time getting along. They were EXTREMELY helpful. They arranged for behavior specialists from the shelter to call us and we ended up calling them up a lot for suggestions. They were very kind and patient over the phone.

Also, when you adopt from NSAL and use their vet service, it's cheaper than going to your own vet.

They aren't TOO strict here is the only thing you should know before going-

1- When you are ready to adopt a specific dog, they will call 2 references that you give them the number of just to make sure you are normal and will take care of the dog. This is so simple, you just give them 2 numbers (I gave my grandfather and FIL) and wait in a waiting area while they call.

2- You MUST get your dog neutered or spayed. The good thing is that all costs are covered by NSAL. For my 1st cat, we needed to take her back to get fixed. For my 2nd one, she was already fixed so we took her home and that was it.

3- We didn't have to do this the second time, but the first time, we just had to show proof of where you life. So, bring your drivers license and a bank statement or something. They may not even ask for this- but just in case it's better to be safe and have it.

4- There is an adoption fee of $100 I believe- It's the only money you pay for the dog- and it's basically a donation to the shelter.

I remember them coming ot to my house to check, no one was home so they left a notice on the door. We called them and followed up with any questions they had.

We have had our Rocky for 3 years now!!! He so spoiled and loved..and he is such a happy dog!

we got sophie there 2 1/2 yrs ago, same thing they did a reference check stopped by left a tag, but we left with her the very same day. the thing with the donation is they will give it back when you bring the puppy back to get fixed b/c they don't charge you, but we weren't going to take it back. i would go there again in a heartbeat for another puppy. probably will someday

we just adopted from Little Shelter if that helps

there are some 'death row' dogs on craigslist.. shelters post dogs that are on the euthanasia list. they usually put a deadline of when the dog will be put down , but don't know if they are accurate.

I am looking for a dog too. Did you look on Petfinder.com?
I am having a hard time finding one. I havent gone to north shore yet. I got my cat there though. I have heard some not good stories about dogs from there being sick so I am scared to go there.
