We want a house but....

I feel like we will never be able to afford one. Houses here are so expensive I will never be able to afford one.

Yes you will ... yes you will ... just keep saying that. I think positive energy and thoughts will make things happen better than negative. Just keep saving and looking.

Good Luck!

Re: We want a house but....

Keep a look out for excellent mortgage deals. DH and I found one for 3% down, no points, no pmi and we locked in a 5.875 interest rate for a 30 yr loan. If we hadn't stumbled across that, we would still be renting because we had next to nothing to put down.

It will all come together for you

Re: We want a house but....

Most people can afford it but just have no idea that they can -
My good friend just bought a modest home (2-3 BRs) in Rocky Point for 260K. She got a 0-down mortgage (only had to pay closing costs) at a 5.75% interest rate! And, to top that off, their credit is not the greatest and both of them work on commission which is always a downfall when going for a mortgage.
It is definitely worth it to explore your options - You might be able to afford something but you just done know it -
Good luck!

Becky - WOW! That is an absolutely incredible deal! Could you please FM me the info too? FH's brother and parents are both buying new houses soon, and we have not seen any deals that even come close to that one!

Re: We want a house but....

I also wanted to say...my mom and I went to an open house in her neighborhood (she likes to see what other people have done to the house...and how much they are offering)

the house was $525K (which you can definitely find houses for less) and they had a plan of putting down $50K....but then monthly payments were $3K or so...

but it can be done...

also look into coops and condos...

Re: We want a house but....

We are having the same problem - FH and I are paying for our wedding, but we would really like to buy some real estate before we get married - houses are out of the question because I personally do not want a 1 family house - I woudl rather have a 3 family so that the rentals can pay off hte mortgage but 3 faimly house prices are insane. We are going to look at coops or condos. I know with coops we arent going to own the real estate - just the shares but we will still be freezing our money - and hopefully the value will go up by the time we are ready to buy a 3 family.

I know what you mean. We have enough for a downpayment. We haven't started to seriously look yet but from what we have seen online I don't know how we will afford the monthly payments. We would move out of New York but we just don't know where.

Re: We want a house but....

Hi ladies. I found a website from the mortgage broker that we used.

https://www.charteronemortgage.com/index.asp

We actually did not do it online though. We worked with a friend's boss' husband. I searched the internet and found this website for you. I didn't know that there was a website. I looked online and saw that there are offices in NY. We worked with an office located in Annapolis.

I truly hope that they offer the same kind of deals in NY. Not to sound like a commercial, but we were at our house moving a few boxes in last night and I could not believe how blessed we are. I hope that you all have as much success with Charter One as we had.

And let me know how it goes.
