Last time we met with the priest, he mentioned he may be going on a religious trip to Eastern Europe and might not be available for our wedding.

So I called the church today to find out who would be officiating so I can make my programs and they told me they won't know who will be officiating until the morning of the wedding!!!!!!!

Is that possible? Should I give it a few weeks and try again?

If that's the case, do I just leave the officiant of the program?

I would just leave him out...I dont think that its right that you have to wait til that day. I guess try calling in another week or so and if they give you the same answer then just leave him out.

If you're in a parish church (Catholic) the only options would be the other priest in the parish. If you're lucky to have more than 2, than they might not now who that person is yet... if you have a 'second' favorite priest, perhaps you can meet with him soon to see if he can preside at your wedding.

If you are only having a ceremony and NOT the Mass, deacons are allowed to do wedding ceremonies. Most parishes have at least 2 or 3 deacons, so again you have more than a few options.

I would call the church, tell them who you want, ask if they're available for that date and schedule it. it's often hard to coordinate with the receptionists at rectories...the priests and deacons are so busy. i think catching them after Mass or at a a church event is the best way to make contact and they can personalyl tell you if they're available to meet . GOOD LUCK!
