Weaning... =(

Weaning... =(

I am VERY sad, but I think it is time for me to wean Lyndsey from breastfeeding. I am back to work full time, and while I tried to pump at work, there just wasn't enough time in the day for me to squeeze it in. Because of this, my milk supply dropped dramatically. I am currently BFing her at 7:30am, 3:30pm...and any feedings after that (usually 2 more). She is getting formula and solids while I am at work. My breasts have gotten much smaller and never really feel 'full' anymore, even in the morning. Poor Lyndsey is screaming for more after I feed her (breastmilk), so I have to give her formula too.

I did not think I would be this upset....my goal was to BF for 6 months, and I made it. Last night I was hysterically crying for 2 hours over this. (LOL, my hormones are going nuts....I just got my 'friend' for the first time again.)

Anyway, I guess the point of this was just to vent. But for those of you that have weaned, exactly how do I do it? I am pretty clueless. I am trying to eliminate one feeding per week, is that ok? Thanks...

Oh, Melissa...between you and Phyl, I'm reliving how emotional this whole thing was for me! I am so sorry you're feeling down, but I totally understand. I don't have any weaning advice, though, b/c I had to quit BFing cold turkey due to medical problems.

I wish you much strength through the emotional process...try to take comfort in knowing that you gave Lyndsey an amazing start to her life!

I think you should be proud that you made your 6 month goal- which is also my goal.

Claud- you did your very, very best and should always be proud of that

Congratulations on making your goal. Weaning can be done as slow or fast as you want. As long as you are supplementing her, then you can continue to keep up with the feedings you are home for. I weaned Annalise over many weeks and think I officially dried up this weekend. I no longer feel full and have not pumped since the weekend. Weaning slowly worked for us and you can go with the 'flow' to see what is right for you. I am an emotional mess too, but each day I feel a little less 'blue'. Try to enjoy your extra time and vent here if you need.

Hi there- I am sorry that you are going through this (too!)...but you did make your 6 month mark! and you have to be proud of that...with Julianne..the feedings just sort of tapered off to 1x in the am and 1x at night. I was a bit alarmed at her dr appt when she was only in the 10th percentile for her age...but the dr said it was FINE..told her that J has a GREAT appetite..and the dr suggested supplementing with a bottle after nursing...

well, J would nurse for like 10 seconds and then reach for the bottle. (nothing like THAT feeling when it happens!)...

take it slow, enjoy whatever feedings you do get to give her...may sound gross/un classy but see if you want to take a picture of you 2 when ur feeding..so you can have it for her album..(there are classy ways to do this that dont expose you)

Im on the minpill..so I have been getting AF on one week. off 3-5 days..and then AGAIN..this is the 3rd week so far I am ON! so I need to get a check up and then change pills- my hormones are a little wacky now too...

feel free to vent- FM me if you like!
