I was updating my wedding webiste and was thinking of adding some info about wedding attire. Our invites are going to say Black tie or Black tie optional not sure what I want yet.
My question is--- regardless of which one I will go with, is it okay or not okay to include some info about what Black tie or optional means? I know some people dont really know what each of the terms mean so I thought I'd provide some info. I also want to say something like' This is just for guidance please wear whatever you are comfortable with but nothing casual.'
Has anyone done this on their wedding website?
Tia!

Re: Wedding Attire Info on Wedding site??
hmm I think most people know what it means, personally I would prefer to just ask my bridesmaids and close family members to spread that word that i'd prefer it to be more formal wear....the majority of people would rather not have to buy gowns and rent tuxes just to go to a wedding, more people are less likely to come if that is the case, in my experience, I am inviting plenty of people who are not close family and I really can't see them coming to the wedding if its going to cost them another 400$ between the couple just for attire, let alone a gift. Just my opinion.

Your wedding website is the right place to put any details you couldnt include with your invite. That is where you keep everyone up to date on what's going on, especially for OOT.

Re: Wedding Attire Info on Wedding site??
I wouldnt want people going out of their way and buying a completely new dress/suit. But i def dont want anyone coming in a casual dress or no suit. I dont care about tuxes.
Most people have at least one suit or nice formal dress or even a formal cocktail dress they can wear. At least I hope!
I dont think I will have an issue with dress but just in case people wonder. I dont anyone feeling shy to call my family or friends to get the info.

How about a link to a webpage that you feel has a good description of wedding attire- that way you can kind of just act like someone asked you to provide the info, but you aren't actually telling people what to wear yourself.

That's pretty much what black tie optional means. I have it up on our website and obvi invites will say the same. I didn't want to obligate anybody to have to go out and buy a dress or a tux.
Black tie optional just means, if you have a tux or nice dres, wear it....if not, wear what you have
Black tie preferred is an option too depending on how much you want ppl to be dressed up

Re: Wedding Attire Info on Wedding site??
I think a wedding website a great place to put that info. Also, word of mouth works as well.
As for whether you are putting Black Tie or Black Tie Optional: although I love Black Tie, I understand that it puts a lot of people in a tough position, particularly if you have people coming who are young or are having a tough time financially. Regrettably, most guys today do not own any type of evening wear. If, however, you have a guest list that includes a lot of people who typically wear black tie, attend fancy functions, etc., then it's probably ok.
Black Tie Optional is ok, but just know that you are going to get a lots of guys in suits. If that is ok by you, then go for it.
As the poster above me mentioned, Black Tie Preferred is also a nice choice. I actually like better than Black Tie Optional, because it gives your guests a better idea of the level of formality of the wedding. People who want to, or are on the fence about, wearing black tie will usually do so. I used Black Tie Preferred for my wedding and, surprisingly, a LOT of men wore tuxedos, and many were excited to wear one. It's so rare for us guys to really get dress up like that, that a lot of us jump at the chance.
If you don't care about having guys in tuxes, then Semi-Formal or Cocktail Attire is entirely appropriate, and generally more typical.
If you want to run any dress code descriptions by me, feel free. I'm more than happy to lend a helping hand.

Regardless I would put that info on your site.
It's kinda what a wedding site is to provide information.
I've had a couple guests contact me in the past couple weeks to confirm what website login information for attire information.

people are gonna ignore you no matter what. my family LOOOOVES black tie events. I went to 3 weddings in one year all black tie. Women wore dresses..nice ones, but not black tie.
I'd go formal attire. It doesn't hold the stigma that black tie has with some people.
Or...you could just say, 'don't come looking a mess!' lol
