So went to pick up our wedding bands from the jeweler.
we dropped 6,000 dollars in the store, and when we asked them to polish my engagement ring- they wanted to charge $30.
Is that normal? my fiance was pissed. he kept going off that- after spending 30 , they should throw in a polish for free. I was a little shocked , she wanted another $30 from me
its not really the money, more the principal.

No, not normal. They should definitely clean your ring for you at no charge.

Re: Wedding Band
yeah i agree. i would have recommended them to people. towards the end- they got weird.
whats up with making us pay cash, but still charging us tax? they said the only way to pay was by cash, no check and no credit cards. i never heard of that? i heard of vendors making u pay only cash- but when they do that, they don't charge u tax.

Re: Wedding Band
Exactly--when you pay cash, no tax. The reason they want cash is so they don't have to report it so that they don't have to pay tax. I would check with BBB before you do anything else with this jeweler.
The jeweler that made my engagement ring told me that I can come in whenever I wanted a cleaning or a resizing for free (after all, we spent a lot!)! So definitely not normal.

Re: Wedding Band
thats is very strange. why wouldn't they clean your rings for free... didn't they just make a huge $$$ on you is it the same place where your e-ring was purchased from?

Re: Wedding Band
paying cash to a jeweler?? sketchy.... and the addition of $30 is crazy! Mine included it and i told them to be careful with my e-ring (they had to take it cause I was getting a custom band to go around my e-ring) because the diamond was a little loose. They said 'oh thats okay, we'll fix that!' and they threw in free engraving!

Re: Wedding Band
I agree with everyone else, that is definitely not normal! Since I've been engaged, any jewelry store I have gone into, even if i didn't buy anything, would clean my ring for me!

Re: Wedding Band
The place FH got my ring does not charge to clean or polish. And after dropping 6000 you think they would throw it in for free! it is a little odd that they only accept Cash and still charge sales tax.

Re: Wedding Band
Thats absurd!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I go to the jewlerer (who happens to be the same person FH got the ering from) does it for free each time! I don't have a clue why he would charge you to polish your ring after you just dropped that $....that is completely ridiculous.

Re: Wedding Band
Something is definately fishy about that jeweler. I've had all my rings sized and cleaned for free. It should be about the money. You have no idea how many times you'll need those rings cleaned and sized in your life. A reputable jeweler would have given those services to you for free. Is it too late to get your money back and find new ones?

Re: Wedding Band
Crazy they should have cleaned your ring for free. I went somewhere just looking at wedding bands and she cleaned it for free. Didn't have to buy anything
