Wedding band music enough for fun reception?

Just wondering what or how a music band could make the reception more fun.

Should they play a variety of fast/slow pace music (we're having some dancing but not heavy). Or games that the band may be familiar with (I haven't asked them yet). What works for weddings?

I fear that the reception may turn out sluggish and I just want to do everything I could to prevent that.
