We went and looked at wedding bands today. I really wanted a diamond wedding band. I found two. One that I LOVE!! and one that was cool, not for me but really stunning, but anyway the diamond one was $5100.00. I was shocked! Should I have been or is that the norm? FI's ring is plain and simple so his is under $500.00 But I am having sticker shock? I know that it could vary by the diamonds etc. But that just seemed like so much to me. Anyone else, is that a lot?

Re: Wedding bands
Depends on the quality & size of your stones.... I'm getting a diamond band with 7 or 8 stones channel set in white gold, and that band is $1100. So.... I would say - look around & comparison shop!

Re: Wedding bands
I saw an eternity band with round diamonds that came to about two karats. I was quoted 1900. I strongly suggest going to the diamond district on 47th between 5th and 6th....you pay wholesale prices.

Re: Wedding bands
First off, was the band you were looking at an eternity band? What total carat weight was it? What were the color & clarity of the stones? Did you go to a jelwer because most jewelers mark up their prices 2 to 3 times as much as wholesalers. Go downtown to Canal & Bowery to the diamond district. My jeweler is there and the price of my ring that I had custom made would have been tripled in a jewelery store and I would not have even gotten the quality as good as what I have.

Re: Wedding bands
We went to the jewerly store that FI got my Ering at. It is owned by the best friend of my stepfather so I feel confident in the quality that I am getting.
The ring is Plat & diamond .11 each 2.32 total it is a shared prong ring and based on my e-ring the stones will be very high quality-
I think I will take all of your advice and go the city. Any suggestions of a store or jeweler. I just feel bad because it is a family friend but $5k for this seemed like a lot to me or maybe it was sticker shock. Any recommendations would be appreciated!

Re: Wedding bands
The same thing happened to me!! I fell in LOVE with this band and really wanted it.. FH loved it too! We TOTALLY went over budget but FH said that that was the one thing he didn't want to compromise on.. it's something we'll wear forever.. Mine is 4.50 carats and it's the same kind of stones as my e-ring.. =) the pic of our rings is in another thread....

Re: Wedding bands
We have a jewler on 47th st who is terrific. My ring is similiar to what you described ...
Plat setting ... 5 rounds, shared prong, .27 ct each ... high quality ... very reasonable ... much less than what you've been quoted.
We started w/family friend who made up the setting for my e ring ... but he played around with prices ... it was rediculous. This guy is very good.
FM me if you want the # !
