So I've seen in some posts...and even from one of my friends...that the 'good' bands dont do showcases b/c they dont need to. I find it a bit ridiculous to imply that a band that does showcases isnt good. I would never book a band without hearing them live...and since I've never been to a wedding with a band...I wouldnt have the slightest clue who is good. Does anyone else think it's insane to make the assumption that bands that actually let you hear what you are paying for are actually desperate for business?

i think it is insane to think that way.....i think some people are just set in a band way for a certain band and will say anything to get the other person to use them.

I agree. I think it's wrong for people to make that assumption. Are those people just hiring a band by word of mouth and not even hearing them?! I wouldn't wanna do it that way. I think bands that do showcases are marketing themselves and it helps them more in the long run to get clients. I'd imagine they would be more busy than a band that doesn't put themselves out there.

I didn't see my band at a showcase, I went to their office and listened to a bunch of different dvd's. My mother heard them live. They absolutely blew me away. Plus, when looking at their resume, I knew they were very highly recommended so we went with it.
