My 93 yr old great grandmother literally took her wedding bands from her fingers and told me she wants me to have them. As a child I always admired them on her...its a double diamond band in between 2 sapphire bands (which happen to be both of our birthstones). However, now that they are mine, i dont love them. Attached is a pic. what do you ladies think? i like the diamond band alone but then i have to wear my ering on the other hand which i guess i am ok with. is it bad if I tell her i dont want to wear the sapphires on the day of the wedding??? i dont want to insult her but i have to look at the wedding pics for the rest of my life and dont want to be distracted by the blue bands (which imo my fingers are too short to wear all of the bands at once). what do i do?!?!
awwwww i think its BEAUTIFUL!!!!! and soooo meaningful!!!
what if you wore the sapphire bands on ur right hand and ur ering with the diamond band??

Re: wedding bands (rings)
This post has me in tears (nothing that you said, I just wish that I could have the same thing with my grandma with the wedding approaching )...I think the ring is absolutely beautiful and so meaningful. IMO, I would find a way to still wear it on the day.

I was going to suggest this as well. Then it's the best of both.

I'm sure she would be heartfelt by that as well

I love the idea of wearing something so meaningful on your wedding day. Its your something old and blue in one! Wear the sapphire bands on your other hand and you will be happy you did years from now.

THIS! Though I get what you're saying. My grandmother gave me her wedding bag the other day and it totally doesn't match anything I'm wearing (it's stark white and my gown is diamond white) and I wasn't planning on having a purse anyway. I'm not going to carry it all day but I'm definitely going to find a way to incorporate it into the day.
That's something really special - I don't think you have to wear it all day, but even just a couple of pictures with you and her putting the rings on, etc. I think will be really sentimental. In 50 years when she's gone, you'll look back at those pictures and be happy you have them IMO.

i agree you ladies are def right about wearing it and trying to incorporate these things in our weddings.
Two years ago i was blessed to still have 2 grandmothers, 1 grandfather, one great grandmother and one great grandfather alive....now i am down to one grandmother and one great grandmother. its hard especially during this time of planning when we are wishing they were still here with us.

Re: wedding bands (rings)
If you dont like it then i think you should get yourself a band that you want of your own to wear with your engagement ring and wear the whole set on the other hand for good luck to be your something blue. you can wear it kinda like a cocktail ring.
