those of you who have gone for your cakes...

what happened on the first meeting? did you bring pics of what you wanted? did you tatse right there? how far in advance did you go?

i went like 2 months ago.....i actually drew some cake pictures before I went because I couldnt decide on what I wanted. Then when I got there I looked through a ton of pictures too and was able to find one that was similar to what I had in mind and that I loved. So, we are actually replicating the cake I saw in the picture, just making it bigger.

When we met with the cake vendor she had set us up for a tasting. There was a fee for the tasting which was waived if we booked. I am not sure if others do the same but that was her policy.

We brought along photos and looked through hers as well. When we decided on shape/style she asked us our anticipated number of guests. She then calculated the size of the cake we would need and gave us a price based on the type of flavors/fillings and number of servings the cake would serve.

I went in July I think. Most bakers asked me what I wanted and prepared a quote for me. The one I am using had cake there ready to be tasted. And also talked to us about what we wanted. I think that gave us plenty of time. :)

I offered photos and tasted different fillings the first time I went. The 2nd time I went with fiance and tasted cake, filling and icings.

I just brought a picture of what I want and told them what flavor. They will make up whatever I want.

I think i may have the same bakery as you, since we're both using Lessings.

I brought a bunch of pictures off the Internet of cakes I liked... we also looked through several books of pictures. Then we combined the elements from several different pictures to create a 'super-cake' that we loved! It was a lot of fun, and relatively stress-free.

As a bonus, it smells AMAZING in there!!!
