Hi girls! Hope you're all safe and warm in this crummy weather! I just had a question about weddnig cakes....we're having our reception at CLM and we get the cake as part of the package. They apparently have two different bakers they deal with (Black Forest Baker and another one I can't remember the name of). Did anyone get their cake from CLM? Which baker did you use? Did you pick one of their cakes or bring them pics of what you wanted? Does anyone have pics of their cakes they can post? I'm very confused about what kind of cake to get...my FH and I kind of like the fountain cake look and managed to pick the same cake my sister had 13 years ago!!! And my sister and I have TOTALLY different taste! Go figure.
I'd appreciate any info !

I wish I knew myself! I'm a CLM bride and I'm hoping to get the cake that comes with the package- yet I want it to be pretty customized and I'm wondering what it costs. I wish I could help you!!

Re: wedding cake from CLM - question
CLM only gets their cake from Black Forest. The other bakery they use is only for cookies and pasteries.
We went for the final meeting about a month ago and picked out our cake. We didnt bring pics (although I knew what I wanted) because we didnt have the money to upgrade, so we knew we had to pick a cake from the package. They showed us a book of like 8 or 9 cakes. They had maybe 5 or 6 tiered cakes (the kind that have the colums in between the layers) and then the last few were regular tiered cakes (the kind that are stacked directly on top of one another.
You get to pick any filling you want.
HTH!

Thanks so much Jenn...so basically they have designs in the book you can choose from as far as shape, height, etc....but you can customize colors I'd imagine....how about if I wanted a certain fondant design going around the cake? Would that be a huge upgrade you think? What exactly constitutes an upgrade anyway?
Thanks Jenn!

Re: wedding cake from CLM - question
I know that you can meet with the Black Forest Bakers themselves if you want to....they apparently have a lot of books with different cakes. We met with the baker briefly one day (we were late for TWOTY and couldn't stay!) and he told us that most of his cakes would be included in the CLM price.....rolled fondant is additional...I want to say it was something like $1/pp additional.
On a slightly different topic, do you guys know if the person you deal with most of the time is the Maitre D' for your event? I keep reading all these things about Nick but have been dealing with Lou (who is also great). It almost seems as if Nick does all the weddings - dou you know? Thanks! Tara

Re: wedding cake from CLM - question
We actualyl just went and met with them to do the food menu last monday. Yes they have a book of about 10 or so cakes you can choose from and customize the designs in any color taht you want to. They are very pretty! Tehy all come from Black Forest Bakery...he said if you have a picture of a specific cake you have to go into the actually bakery to deal with them and pay extra to upgrade. You can pick any kind of filling you wnat...chocolate or vanilla cake....like 5 different fillings (puddings and creams)...and fruit filling in you want it. We went with chocolate cake with cannoli filling and strawberries. Good luck!!!

I'm fairly certain that any cake thats not included in their book, or adding rolled fondant, would be considered an upgrade.
As far as the colors though, yes, you definately can change any colors.

Re: wedding cake from CLM - question
I went to Black Forest about two weeks ago, and they had lots and lots of pictures--several large binders worth of pictures. Now, I don't know if those are out of the amount you're allowed or not, I'm sure many are, but you can probably pick out a style you want and work with Tom the baker to make it fit their price point. We wanted cupcakes, so we didn't really look through the books, but Tom was great to work with--he obviously loves his job. We talked about what flavors and fillings and he got what I meant when I said I wanted really pastel icings. Then he even called us back later to suggest that he put pearlized or sparkly sugar around the flowers to make the cupcakes look even more special.
So why don't you arrange to go to the bakery and see what you can work out?

Not sure what constitutes an upgrade a Chateau La Mer but I went there w/ a picture of what I wanted and the passed it on to Black Florest. We are doing an eight sided five tier cake. If there is something you want bring the pics. Nick and Lou will definitly work w/ you and will let you know if what you wants to doable.
By the way Balck Forest is awesome and FH and I have ordered cakes from them before
