Wedding cake panic!

Hi ladies,

Was wondering if anyone was able to give me a review/thoughts/tips on a wedding bakery named ' A Taste of Home' (bellemore)? From the yelp reviews online, I'm quite concerned- actually borderline panic. The reviews were not great and there was even one review that stated they reused moldy bread! OMG that made me nuts!

Next to the RH, the cake is a huge priority for me. So before I started going to the RH hall flipping out about a bakery, I wanted to make sure it wasn't that my preconception of a business would be based on just 13 reviews. I believe more than reviews elsewhere the reliability of opinions and advice of all of you ladies. My RH is the Inn at New Hyde Park.

In this case, if I really can't find reassurance in the bakery that is contracted for our RH, will RH be able to work with me and give me back some money so I can buy my cake elsewhere? Has anyone experienced this type of situation before? How did it end up being resolved?

Anything information would help. It's really making me jittery.

My RH said if we went elsewhere they would give us extra desserts. They may do that instead of giving money back.

That's what my RH said! I worked at a bakery for 5 years and wanted them to do my cake. Every hall I visited (except for one) offered to add something else in if I decided to have my cake made elsewhere!

My family uses Taste of Home for a lot of bakery/cake needs and everyone seems to like them. Can't hurt to find out what kind of money back you'd get from your RH, though!

This! Speak to your venue. Normally they can take some money off if you use an outside bakery.

I'm getting married at inn @ nhp and had my cake tasting at taste of home. They were SO nice and accommodating and their cake was very good. They gave you mini cake layers, icing and frosting so you can build your own cake. I would go to a tasting before you rule them out. HTH!

I ordered my cake elsewhere. For what I wanted (3-4 tiered fondant cake) the RH was charging us almost $600!!! I went else where (Dortoni's in levittown, which my family and I love lovelove!) And got it much cheaper. The RH said although they cannot offer $$ back, each table would get cookie trays. I figured better than nothing.

I am getting married at the Inn and I also went for our tasting there. I thought they were great and we enjoyed the tasting. I bake myself, so cake is priority to me too. I think they will do a great job with mine :)
