How much are you guys looking to spend on your wedding cake??
I'm seeing a wide range of prices and I know it depends on the size, butter or fondant etc. but on average, how much is 'reasonable' per slice? (the French bakery I visited today calculated the total price based on price per piece)
Also, has anyone here used Wedding Cakes Online?? Any feedback??
TIA ladies!!!

Re: Wedding Cake prices
average price for fondant cake is $6-8 a slice, and trust me its the average bc for e-party i was gonna get a fondant cake and i called at least 50 bakeries to check out the prices lol and i called bakeries in manhattan, queens, brooklyn and LI, until i was convinced to save a fondant cake just for the wedding. The cheapest i found it was for $4.25 a slice and this was in suffolk, i found maybe 2 or 3 places for about 4.50 a slice and again very few for $5 a slice.
There are some in the city that do charge more and its about $10-12 a slice and then if you go REALLY extravagant can go even higher.
Buttercream is generally $1.50-$2 a slice

not sure about pricing because our price was worked out through a very good friend, but before u decide on a 'look' u want...i would definetly go & taste them! I was so set on a fondant cake untill i tasted it! YUCK! (jmo people noone get offended!) Anyways, here's a photo of our cake...it was actually done with a smooth buttercreme.. If u find a great bakery, they'll do a great job with making it look how u want for the right price. We used Dortoni's. They're amazing...

i agree alot of fondant doesnt taste that good. But there are some cake designers who make their own fondant and it tastes so good, some even use rice crispies and other things...but other bakeries buy the fondant from an outside place and it tastes bad...ALSO what someone can do to save money if they want a fondant cake, and not have the fondant taste, so gets rid of two problems, is to have your main cake just 1 layer of real cake the rest will be cake molds with the fondant over it and they serve your guests sheet cake without the fondant on it, and this will cut down costs on a fondant cake

where are you located, if anything do a tasting at a local place...i can recommend places near you. And like i said if you like the look of fondant but not the taste still use it but serve your guests sheetcake, and it'll come out cheaper...Some places make it so good, i get these fondant cupcakes and the fondant is the best part

Re: Wedding Cake prices
..btw i know Dortoni's is in Levitown...so it's not THAT much of a hike. They really are awesome - they do the cakes & desserts for Jericho Terrace, Villa Lombardis, Woodberry country club, etc.

Re: Wedding Cake prices
Fondant cakes are more expensive and many people don't like the taste and texture of fondant and peel it off the cake.
You CAN still get the clean look of fondant with buttercream (which is less expensive), but it would have to depend on what kind of design you are looking for for your cake.
