I was always under the impression that the catering halls give you the option for the cake filling but not the design of the cake? Is this true or should I be looking at designs I like. I noticed the thread and most people seem to picking a design.........
My catering hall lets me design the cake.
My hall has its our bakery in Sayville (Audrey's). They told us that we can go there and they will make whatever cake we want. However, I bet there is a selection of basic cakes and upgrades just like everything else. It probably depends on the hall.
I think it depends on your hall. My hall provides 4 layer cake. They use audreys bakery and you can pretty much pick what you want however if you want something that is not included you can pay xtra. I am paying an xtra $.75 pp for red velvet cake.
Danford's uses Rolling Pin, so we had an appt with David the owner & we could have whatever we wanted ... if we opted for anything very special it was not covered (like fondant, etc).

My hall gives me the choice of 20 beautiful cakes.
We got to pick from a selection of their choosing. But they were awesome about it. We were able to mix things we liked from each style to create our own unique cake. I can't wait to get pics to show all of you.
