Wedding Cake Question

Wedding Cake Question

Does your hall include a wedding cake? What type of cake is included (i.e. 3 tier, 4 tier, buttercream, fondant, variety of fillings). Are you going to pay additional to upgrade your cake? If yes, what are you planning on upgrading to? If you have something in mind that you like, feel free to post pics!

My hall includes a basic cake. It's either 3 or 4 tiers (not 100% sure), and I'm pretty sure the outside is buttercream and they have limited fillings. Ideally, I would probably like to upgrade to have fondant and put sugar/gumpaste flowers on the cake to go along with my subtle cherry blossom theme (see below pics). But it's probably going to be sooo expensive if we upgrade. I don't know if I really want to spend $800-1000 on a cake (which I'm estimating the upgrades would cost) so I don't know if it's really worth it. I may just go with the basic cake and then have my florist provide flowers for it.....but I am in love with these 2 cakes I posted and wish I could have them!!! (especially the first!)

Re: Wedding Cake Question

omg i LOVE them!!!!
I would contact outside bakeries (if you need people let me know!) and just inquier!!! see how much it would cost! (i have to say, i dont think it would be 800-1000)

the hall would then take whatever they allot for a thier cake and put it towards something else like extras for CH and what not!

i think they are fabulous cakes!

Thanks! I will let you know if I need any suggestions! I estimated approx $800-1000 because I have spoken with other OFC brides and they have told me that the upgrade to fondant is about $400-500 I think! So I was trying to figure out how much more the gumpaste flowers would be...I thought that the one with the branches would be particularly expensive. But I will definitely take your advice and contact outside bakeries!! Thanks for the tip.

Re: Wedding Cake Question

IMO-i think it would be much more expensive to upgrade thru OFC!!!....I am kind of basing what my cake is compared to (not getting it thru my hall) what the pics are and i think it would def be less then 800-1000.....Sugar flowers and gum paste do add to the price but you can always do less if need be but again i think you can def do it! xxoo

oh! for example.....at the westbury manor for the eparty i asked about fondant (now this is a two tiered very basic cake) and she said the upgrade was 300 (not even talking flowers here)!!!!!!!!!!!! i know i can get a really fun cake from a great bakery with lots of other elements for 200 at the most!!! (we order cakes-ALOT lol) so i hth!

Thanks for the tips! I was thinking that it would be really expensive everywhere....so it's such a relief to know that there are bakeries out there that would be a lot less than 800-1000. Do you use a specific bakery frequently?? If so, could you let me know the name of the bakery? I'm not looking into cakes right now but I'll keep the information on hand for when I start getting cake quotes. Thanks again for your help!!! I would LOVE to get one of the cakes I posted but thought that it would be way too expensive.

Re: Wedding Cake Question

My RH includes the cake, but I'm not positive about what kind of cake it includes. I love the pictures you posted, and I would ideally like to have something like that. I agree with you though, if it gets too expensive I may just have my florist add flowers to it.

Re: Wedding Cake Question

OMG I LOOOVEEE That first cake!!! it's absolutely gorgeous and will be perfect for your cherry blossom theme! I think if your RH includes the standard 3-4 tier, i'm sure your florist can do something similar with real flowers...honestly i really don't know how much upgrading costs. that would be definitely something to look into. I know I kinda want gold edible ribbon coming down on each side...but i'm sure i would have to pay much extra so i may just have to keep it simple... I also love cakes with just one huge flower and the rest with a gold trim maybe.

but really that first cake is gorgeous, it can't hurt to look into pricing to do something similar.

here's two that i really like so far...

Re: Wedding Cake Question

Your cakes look so pretty.

Our hall includes the cake and we are just going to stick with what they have. Neither of us are crazy about cake, so it will just be there for the tradition of it. I'll just pick out whatever I like best from their selection.

Re: Wedding Cake Question

WE upgraded to the 'elements of Style'package which includes an upgrade cake among 827498230 other things.. FMIL insisted.. Ididn't really give a rat's ***... but she offered to pay for it so FH jumped on it. Whatever.

LOL, anyway,w e were told we could do anything we wanted I can't remember if it's 4 or 5 tiers... and for some reason FH removed this section from the binder? WTH I just went to look for what the Elements of Style says about the cake and it's missing.

Re: Wedding Cake Question

our cake is inclulded in our package.... we can use one of two bakeries (i think we are going with Black Forest Bakery since everyone who's been married there gave it rave reviews).

As far as the look of the cake... I have some ideas of what I want, but none of which FI likes... gotta keep looking

Thanks so much! I love it too..I just hope it's in our price range.

I love the pic of the first cake you posted! It's so elegant. Having an edible gold ribbon coming down on the sides would look beautiful!!!

My RH gives us the cake; however, I'm not sure what type they will give us. I'm sure I would probably want an upgrade because I want a beautiful and lavish cake. I love your ideas though. The two cakes are very beautiful
