My venue provides a wedding cake....so I sent over a picture of what I want my cake to look like and I was told to call the cake designer they use. Basically the cakes they provide are 'budgeted' and my taste is out of their budget because of the sugar flowers.
I was wondering if anyone can recommend any good bakeries who are reasonable.
I already contacted Dortonis.
This was a cake from a 2010 bride, but I don't think she comes on the site anymore.
In the area you can try Riesters or Buttercooky. Not sure how extensive they are with sugar flowers, but both are really good bakeries!

what do you consider reasonable? That is a gorgeous cake, but I'm not surprised they want to charge you more, it's a lot of work! If you want it made out of sugar flowers, I would expect it to cost anywhere from $10-$25 a slice, at least! I have an appointment with City Cakes coming up, FM me if you want any info. I was also looking at Taste in Syosset. I haven't found too many I really like. We are going to get a smaller cake to showcase/cut but we aren't serving it to our guest, because we have a make your own cheesecake sundae bar instead! I have heard of some people getting a small cake like ours and having sheet cakes that are similar but plainer in the back that get cut for the guests.
Another idea: Using fresh flowers? Then you are really only talking about a few simple tiers of quilted fondant. It would be less expensive from the cake end, but I don't know how it would work out when you add the flowers; it might be worth thinking about?

I'm going to price around. I wish the bride who had this cake done was still around. Dortonis quoted 2400. Way too much. I might end up doing fresh flowers, but it won't look the same at all.

If you really want a lot of sugar flowers, you may want to look at the following website
http://www.discountsugarflowers.com/
You could probably order the sugar flowers and ask them to add them for you instead of paying them to make them for you.

Re: Wedding Cake/Bakery Help
maybe try A Taste of Home in bellmore?? This is the bakery my venue uses. We added a few upgrades to ours and they seemed pretty reasonable. Monica, the sister of the owner, handles all the consults and she was super sweet and personable.
