does anyone know if it will be easy to get any deposits back? we gave deposits to photographer/video, dj, hall, dress, jewelry. I think that's it.

Oh no is everything ok??how are you??
Also, where was the reception? I think Suffolk has some rules that will allow you to get money back up until a certain point. Girls on here would know better than me..

Re: wedding canceled
If your RH is in Suffolk and since it is 6 months prior to the wedding date you will be able to get your deposit back less $100. You would have to check your contracts and see what they say. Good luck and I am sorry to hear that you cancelled your wedding.

I'm okay. he was abusive. I couldn't deal with it anymore. I couldn't go through with it. long story. Jericho terrace was the reception place.

Re: wedding canceled
You will probably lose your deposits on the dress and jewelry, but you may have some luck with the other vendors, especially if you do it asap so they can begin working on rebooking that date.
Even if you don't get your money back it is a small price to pay for getting out of what could have been a dangerous marriage.
I will be thinking of you and wishing you well.

I figured probably that much. my grandmother is flying up to help me go cancel contracts. it is a small price to pay for sure. at least I have my life back now.

Try posting on the 09 boards. Maybe one of those girls will take your date?

Re: wedding canceled
1st I am so sorry but I am glad that you got out before anything bad happen to you.
2nd I dont know if JT is in suffolk county but if it is you can cancel it before the 6 month period for the wedding and the only amount they can retain is $100 (so I know your six month is next month so better hurry)
3rd regarding the rest you should check you contract w/ them and call them. I think they would stay with the deposit.

I am so sorry to hear that but I am happy that you decided to walk away. You are so strong
About deposits since it is more than 6 months you should be able to get the deposits back. Post on the 08 and 09 boards to see if anyone is still looking for those particular vendors and maybe they can take over your contract.
Good luck!

Re: wedding canceled
deposits are usuaully non-refundable if they can't re-book the date. there are rules re: this though particualrly when it concerns the hall because most people make monthly payments, etc. and may have already put down several thousand. i would call each vendor and see what they can do for you.

Re: wedding canceled
I'm sorry to hear that. But if he was abusive-whether it was mental or physical, you or any woman should NEVER EVER stand for that and alot of women do not have enough courage to get out, so consider it a good thing. Ur a really strong person. It'll get easier over time.
As far as the jewlery & dress u can try and sell it on ebay.
As far as the vendors, have a heart to heart with them, go down there and I'm sure they'll give u some back. Each vendor and RH have different rules.
Good luck!
