During our wedding our best man's fiancée left their card on the counter in the ladies room and when she went back it was missing! She asked the attendant if she saw it and the attendant said yes she saw a card and that this happens all the time and she bets someone put it in our card box for us, except no one did. But later in the night she went back to the bathroom and asked the attendant again to see if she saw who may have picked it up but then said she changed her story and said she never saw it. It's not that I'm accusing the attendant, but I just doubt my family and close friends would take it. She called our venue after the wedding too to see it it was ever found and it wasnt.....Anyway, I just had to vent because I feel so bad and am partially embarrassed that their card couldve been stolen at our wedding. They gave cash too so whoever picked it up probably felt it was thicker and knew....Now they are out the cash and they sent us another check and I told my H that we shouldn't cash it but he said his BM would be offended if we didn't. Anyway, it's just a really stinky situation. Would you guys have cashed the second gift? I just feel really bad about it. Also, is it even worth us calling the venue to report the incident again?

Wow, that stinks! Is a very tricky situation. While its not your fault, of course you feel bad. Honestly? I couldn't, but that's cause I'm naturally a guilty person when it comes to money. But i do have a rule when it comes to money, I will say no twice if they offer a third time they truly mean it & will be offend if I say no so I then graciously accept it. I know I kinda contradicted myself, but deep down you know your own personal rule.

Regarding the venue -- of course!! But you know it's gone. Anyone could've easily walked off with it. Tho changing her story is quite odd!!!

I agree with this. If he really wants you both to have it then just cash it. This is a really awful situation

Wedding card gone missing....
Years ago I had my sweet 16 at the Huntington townhouse and staff stole tons of my gifts. Thankfully the people who gave checks were able to stop the, but others gave me cash and jewelry. Only a few of them offered to give replacement gifts or money but we accepted them graciously because they would have been upset if we didn't, and because we threw a fun party they enjoyed. If I were you I would do the same.
And I would DEFINITELY complain to the venue again.

I would definitely keep complaining to the venue and I agree above I would decline twice and on the third just accept if it got that far. but keep up with the venue!!

Sorry to hear this...honestly anyone could have picked it up...as much as you may think u know all your guests you just never know...its a terrible thing to do!!!It could have been the attendant but who really knows. No cameras no evidence its pretty hard to argue...I would cash it the third time for sure. I have learned to always give a check as gifts for this reason...or always write the amount given at least if only the card was found their would be some indication that there was money...

Thanks for the advice everyone! It's just a very, very unfortunate situation. And, exactly we don't 100% know the attendant took it and at this point it doesn't matter. Lesson learned: always give a check!

That really stinks! Sorry you are dealing with this. I would definitely follow up with the venue again so that they are aware even though there is likely nothing they can do. I agree completely, never put cash in an envelope, ALWAYS give a check!

I like the idea of denying twice. Obviously the attendant took it. If her story was consistant I'd say maybe she did but once a story changes... thats guilt. Def report it!

I was going to say exactly this. I've heard this happen to other people. It's sad that it's even an issue but because I've heard it before I always give a check so if it goes missing I can at least call the bank and stop the check.

What a sucky situation, sorry Hun! I agree with your DH (Dear Husband, LIF lingo), if he says cash it... Cash it and we should all learn now ... Write a check!
