wedding coordinator for Harrison House or no? Help! (this is a long one..)

PLEASE READ MY FOLLOW UP BELOW. THE HARRISON HOUSE IS WONDERFUL, THEY JUST HAVE ONE STAFF MEMBER WHO IS NOT.

Ok, I'm up at 2:30 in the morning even though I have a final exam in 8 hours because my Caterer is making me lose sleep.

I'm really worried. I'm working with Bill Kennedy at the Harrison House and he's been terrible about returning calls/e-mail/and faxes. We had a horrible time communicating about our tasting-he called on a Friday and asked me to call with my meal preferences by Sat. morning, I called Fri. night and left a message asking him to let me know which courses besides the main course we would be tasting-he didn't call back until Monday to leave a message that our tasting was cancelled (we'd scheduled it 2 months prior) with no explanation or apology. We were even told today that he 'no longer makes appointments after 6pm or on weekends'!

I e-mailed him in response and said that was fine, could we reschedule, and said contacting me by e-mail would be best. He called that Wednesday to say he hadn't heard from me and sounded irritated (obviously hadn't read my e-mail). Then I asked if he could either correspond with me by e-mail or call my cell phone as I'm not home much-instead he called my home phone.

When we meet him we wait at least a half an hour with no explanation or apology (all 3 times we've met with him). We did have our tasting this weekend, and we had an appointment for 3pm. We came with my FH's parents and grandmother and waited until almost 4 for Bill to come in to talk to us. (The food was great though).

I'm so worried!!!! Plus, ...I just received an FM a day ago saying that a bride had her engagement party there and she's so bitter she can't even think about it. She said: If you're dealing with Bill Kennedy, watch out he will tell you lies and you have to have everything in writing.

I'm thinking about hiring a wedding coordinator to essentially do what he's supposed to do on that day and to go with me to go over the contract before the wedding. It makes me so angry that I may have to shell out more $$ than we have because I can't have faith in the Catering Director who is handling our wedding.

He also won't put in a contract that our guests will have access to any of amenities at the hotel. I know that the outdoor pool closes for cocktail hours and other events (I'm having mine out there), but the indoor pool/pub/raquetball courts etc. should be open. He just kept saying: Your guests will get a list of what hours everything will be available when they get here. Well-that does them no good if the list says everything that they want to do is closed!!

I'm not sure what to do...my weddings in less than 3 months....

I was very laid back in the beginning, but all this money later I'm not feeling very accomodating to this type of thing.

Should I hire someone? Does anyone know how much a wedding coordinator would charge for this type of thing and of someone reputable?

Thanks for reading this long post!

Nope, and I just requested a switch I said 'I want to switch to ... because I don't get along with (my current event manager)':) So, as long as the other event manager is free-we're switching! And, I'm still hiring the wedding coordinator for the day. It's $750 but not having a headache by my noon wedding may be worth it....?

Thanks for your sympathy and support

Absolutely-my worst wedding planning nightmare. Still can't sleep! I'm going to try to get in touch with the other manager in the morning. We're even tempted to forfeit our invitations, deposit and everything at this point and postpone the wedding if we're told that we still have to work with the same manager-I'm not sure we can afford it though. I talked to a girl today who told me about her experience last October-what a nightmare.

I definitely would tell brides to hold off on booking the Harrison House until this summer's brides post reviews though. Another bride planning for next may is having the same troubles I am.

The last straw was when I tried to set up an appointment with Bill Kennedy for next weekend or the weekend after and he said he wasn't taking appointments anymore after six pm or on weekends....Can you believe it! So, when is he showing the space...never?

i would elevate your concerns to the highest level possible!!! if he refuses to show the place after 6pm or on weekends, he's going to cost them a serious amount of business!!! no way the owner/manager would allow that!!

stay tough!!!!

It's all fixed I contacted the general manager and the other special events manager-and I'm no longer working with Bill. They were WONDERFUL. I really recommend the Harrison House IF you can work with Carmella. Plus, they will either start keeping closer tabs on Bill or maybe he won't last long there. I love my new contact there, and the manager was so wonderful. They both really care about the place and about brides! I'm so happy again. Thanks to everyone for your sympathy

Moria

I am soooo glad that everything worked out for you! I am so glad that you were able to switch and that you are now happy and getting treated the way that you should

Hopefully Bill will get the same treatment he gave you on the unemployment line!
