Re: Speaking of Wedding Coordinators...
They take worries off your mind and will handle everything for you. So they will address any issues that might come up, coordinate things for you and make sure things go as planned.

Re: Speaking of Wedding Coordinators...
It's someone outside of the immediate wedding circle who doesn't need to worry about her own dress or make-up, etc. and can usually be an objective party (i.e., not emotional).
My fiance's cousin is handling ours and she's doing a fabulous job so far. I might try to convince her to do this full time!!

Its definetly a hard one - I booked one because I am afraid things wont get done - So rather then worry I hired Laura from LA Productions - And to he honest I am glad I did - BUT if you have relieable friends and family you dont have to worry...

Re: Speaking of Wedding Coordinators...
IMO....I am enough of a fanatic that I will hopefully have all bases covered. I met with a few of them and I just felt as if they are not going to do something worth while to me to hire them. And, another thing is....most of them are way too overpriced!!!!! Just my honest opinion. For those who booked one...congrats and I hope everything turns out perfect...for those of us that haven't and won't....we got to work a bit harder but I am sure it will be fine!

Not for me!! I hired one and I am so glad!! Yes I have dependable family but I wanted everyone to be able to relax. I didn't pick my BM's thinking that they would be handling my wedding details. JMO!!! Let someone else do the worrying. Maybe if my wedding was smaller I would not have hired her but at this point she is needed greatly

Re: Speaking of Wedding Coordinators...
My MOH just got married last year and she is like a Monica..from Friends. I think she might be offended if I hired a coordinator, lol. She told me that she was going to wear a headset and tell people what to do. I did not pick her because she is a Monica, I picked her because she is my best friend. But, she is away for awhile now and the rest of my BM's have been of zero help and I feel like I am stuck here trying to do this on my own. I guess what my real question should have been is...'Do wedding coordinators only help on the wedding day or do they help with the whole planning?'

Re: Wedding Coordinators, do they help with everything or only Day of??
it matters what you hire the wedding person for - Day of - they help the day of and do all them final calls- they will pay all the vendors that need to be paid - and handle any problems
coordinator - help with the planning process - they have good contacts in the industry and get good deals for you -help with negtiating
I have a coordinator with a set number of hours - but i had some specfic things i needed and she is helping me with all the rentals i need which are alot - Then she will do the day of the wedding - but she will aslo help me a lot at the end because I have the bar exam two weeks before my wedding

Your MOH sounds like me!! I told one of my BM that I'm her unofficial wedding coordinator and that I'd wear a headset too!! Granted, the girl isn't even engaged, but you can never start planning too early.
I've got a day of wedding coordinator and she starts contacting vendors a few weeks before the wedding to make sure everything is set. The day of, she has a copy of all our contracts so in case anything isn't right, she points out to them what they are supposed to be doing. I'm sure your MOH could handle things, but on the day of, it might be nice for her to just relax and enjoy herself. Between now and then, maybe she can help you with the planning, but the coordinator can handle things the day of.

I met with one on Saturday. She could be with you the whole time or just be there the day of the wedding.

Re: Wedding Coordinators, do they help with everything or only Day of??
It does sound wonderful to have a wedding coordinator around that day, but take the time to talk to and compare different people. Just because they charge a lot and are willing to be around for lots of hours doesn't mean they have the proper experience. We had a coordinator and the groom's limo was very late and none of the drivers knew how to get from point A to point B! Don't assume they will take care of all these details. If your church ceremony means a lot to you, choose someone who is very familiar with your service. Having her watch during the rehearsal is not going to give her that experience, and you certainly don't need the wrong input just for her to show she's working for her money. If you want someone around at picture time be sure to give her the list of photos you want and explain who the different people are. Honestly, if all you need is someone to make a few phone calls and carry lists the day of the wedding, ask a few good friends to do that. Your mom's friends or relatives may be thrilled to help. And don't forget, you are paying your vendors lots of money to do their job. Trust them. Your maitre'd is the one who is experienced and capable of handling the reception, anyway.
Feel free to FM me if you have any specific questions. Good luck with your decision.

Re: Wedding Coordinators, do they help with everything or only Day of??
Argh! My post disappeared.
From my calls and emails, coordinators do both day of and complete wedding planning.
I needed one because my MOH is my sixteen year old sister. She's busy with school and college applications, and wouldn't be able to help me the way an older MOH would. I also do not have any bridesmaids, and my two closest friends don't drive. My planner helped me decide on my hall, photographer, florist, favors, and she goes gown shopping with me. Also, a lot of the vendors i wanted to see were on LI, and FH and I live in Brooklyn. Since I don't have a car, it is a BEAST to get out there. We would take the railroad to the station closest to the vendor, and she would pick us up and take us to the appt. I don't want to burden my FMIL to give out the tips the day of, so I asked her to do that as well.
My advice to you is to make a list of all the things you will need help with. See if your MOH, family and friends would be able to help you. If they can- thats awesome that you saved yourself the expense.
