Ok, so our wedding song is almost 5 minutes long. That’s 5 minutes of people watching FH and I wobble around the dance floor. I know people usually get bored with this after the first minute. FH just HATES everyone looking at him..and 5 mins is a long time for that sort of thing. So, I asked the DJ what he thought about having my BP join us after the second verse. He vetoed it..and said that I would regret it later since its mine and FH’s “special moment”. He then suggested that he cut the song short..I think that would be cheesey. Just wondering what you guys thought…
Should I just dance with FH to the whole song, let the BP join anyway, or have him cut the song?

Our song was also 5 minutes long. We invited everyone (not just the BP) to the dance floor at the 3:30 mark.

DJ does not get veto power. lol!!
We had them invite everyone on the dance floor after the second verse and it was perfect. It took the pressure off of us so we could actually enjoy our first dance and we still got plenty of pics!

You could def invite the BP to join in and you could even ask the other guests to join in too. I don't think I'd cut the song short-JMO

our song is 8 minutes long (the 24 nights version)- and i have everything planned out.. if YOU want your bp or parents to join you, then thats YOUR choice, not your DJs.

Sade -By your side was my sisters wedding song. They danced the whole thing by themselves and they felt awkward as anything. I love the song!! I am inviting all guests to the dance floor. I cant take the pressure of all the eyes either lol

how about an Anniversary Dance of sorts? Like, keep adding guests who have been married for a certain amount of time (those married for up to 1 year, up to 5 years, etc) so that everyone ends up dancing by the end?
ps: DH and my song was about 4 1/2 minutes ... we did a choreographed dance (but a slow dance, not done to I like big butts or anything ) and i don't feel like people were bored ... and if they were, screw 'em! we had fun

Let the BP join it. If it's a really long song your not gonna regret it and swaying side to side for 5 min. is going to make everyone uncomfortable.

We're having the BP join us. You'll still have your moment. Tell the DJ, you pay him to do what you want. If you aren't comfortable with 5 minutes alone, have people join. Invite the BP and then the parents if you want.

I let our BP join and then DJ called everyone up there after some time....it was nice to share that with all of our guests. I had the same feelings at first that I wanted it to just be DH and I up there for the whole thing but I am so glad our DJ suggested opening the dance floor to everyone.

You have to do what you and FH are comfortable with - don't let the DJ have a say! I think inviting everyone onto the dance floor (not just the BP) is a great idea about halfway into the song

Maybe just have it fade out? You don't have to play the entire song. Have a cut off time at around 3 minutes, maybe?

I totally agree! We danced for a minute and then had everyone join (the bridal party wasn't big enough to take the attention off of us!).
