Wedding date worries

OK here's my prob. I'm suppossed to be getting married on New Years Eve, and I'm soo excited about it. I'm just soo concerned about the weather, I have family coming from Florida and my FH friends & wives coming from Rockland County. I have the opportunity to change now to 8/8/08 at quite a few places or should I take my chances?? Help!!

Re: Wedding date worries

What kind of wedding do you envision? I feel like most people either love the idea of a winter wedding or love the idea of a summer wedding! I don't know too many people who feel equally about both.

I think it depends on how you picture your wedding day!

Re: Wedding date worries (sorry so long)

Love the idea of a NYE wedding, such a great night to have all friends and family around. Although, I know some ppl have things they do every year with other friends and family, the weather is a concern and the airline prices will be extreme. As for the summer it's beautiful weather, the worst would be rain- at least it;s not snow! I think the summer would be less headaches...I'm so stressed over this, and on top of it, I've looked at 8 places and I'm stuck on 3.

I think that NYE would be fun too! And if you send out save the dates, you'll have a much better chance of everyone being able to make it.

For me, I always knew I wanted a summer wedding. I love the beach, and I wanted to get married near the ocean with the sun shining on us! But thats just me!

I think that either would be beautiful! An NYE wedding could be really elegant and classy, and would be a great way to celebrate your wedding and anniversary every year!

I think the real choice is between summer and winter.... but either way, you can't lose! Both have the potential to be GORGEOUS!

good luck

Re: Wedding date worries

There's no way we can guarantee the weather. It's taking a chance regardless of the season. It could rain, snow, or a possible hurricane. I think we all second guess our dates b/c the nervousness of the weather. It comes down to preference. Would you rather be married in the winter or summer? Taking a chance on the weather is like taking a chance on marriage. Good Luck!

Re: Wedding date worries

Well, winter weather is what we tried to avoid since most of our guests OOT. But typically people can fly in some snow. You can't plan for everything. Trust me, weather isn't everything. However, we had guests that were hit by hurricane Katrina. Although it was months before our wedding, they obviously couldn't make it. You can't plan. Do what you want.

If you do winter, think about your BM. My best friend was in a wedding where the bride got herself a cape for the outdoor pictures while they all froze their butts off in strapless gowns. They were quite perturbed.

I am getting married at the end of December as well and yes, of course, there is a chance that there may be snow. Normally the larger snow storms happen after January though. It's a chance you take when having a winter wedding. I just couldn't envision myself getting married in the summer, it's just not me.

Good Luck!

Well i personally knew I wanted a summer wedding, because I didnt want to have to wear anything over my dress. But my Bday is NYE and I think it's an exellent day. It doesnt usually snow it's just always freezing. But you never know pray to the weather gods and hope for the best

It's up to you, it's hard to predict the weather, there could be a hurricane on 8/8/08 so it's hard to tell!

I am having a winter wedding and I had similar concerns because of OOT guests and those travelling from Rockland County (a large percentage of people plus FH and I). We decided to have our reception at a hotel to make things easier. That might be a good idea for NYE as well since it's not a great night to travel around.

I think you should go with what you really want - as others have said, it's hard to predict the weather at any time of year!

Do you want a winter wedding? If so, stick with your original date!

Re: Wedding date worries

Think of it this way, on New Years eve, no matter what the weather, a LOT of people go out anyway, either to the city, or to a party etc. So I wouldn't worry about the weather so much. If I was invitied to a new years wedding, I would LOVE it! I would have somewhere to go for New Years and celebrate with a lot of people.

If you want to keep it new years eve, people will come to see your wedding, they'll be spending it with their significant other, getting all dressed up, and having a big old party to ring in the new year!!

Stick with NYE. You will always have something that can go wrong. Don't change it because of that, you can drive yourself crazy with the what ifs.

I think New Years is the perfect date to get married. Plus..you can never guarentee the weather. A friend of mine got married in April, and there was one night with thunderstorms and downpours. Well, needless to say 40 PEOPLE did not show up due to weather. And that was only rain...so you never know.

Re: Wedding date worries

I wanted to do a NYE wedding but my fiance couldn't make it, so we couldn't do that. =) We're doing January (he's in the Navy so it's hard to plan around his schedule and that was the best time for us because he'll be back from deployment then and wouldn't be deployed right away). I am worried about snow, and his family is from the south, but we're just keeping our fingers crossed! Good luck!

Re: Wedding date worries

the only thing that makes me worry about having a wedding in the winter is, being that we are on long island we get 4 seasons, We get massive snow storms, and i would be so afraid of people not coming, or better yet, the snow being so bad the wedding would be cancelled. that is my only fear
