i haven't been on here much lately...but i could really use some advice about my day of make-up.
i had someone come to my house to do a make-up trial a few weeks ago. she used mac products and i could tell she was very good at what she was doing by the way she was putting it on me. i was so excited to see what it was going to look like...
when she was finished i RAN to a mirror and...well...it was not good. i felt like i looked like a drag queen. but i really don't think it was the quality of the girl's work, i think i just do NOT look good w that much make-up on. so i was nice and i told her i liked it, but that there were a few things i wanted to change. i booked her for my day of thinking if she just used less eye makeup it would be fine. but when FH saw me, he made a TERRIBLE face and told me he HATED it. i took some of the eye makeup off and he still hated it. i took it all off, put on my makeup the way i usually do, and he was so happy. he said i looked scary the way it was.
he has been begging me to cancel w this girl but i keep thinking that if i do my own makeup it will all be gone half way through the wedding. what should i do? i need to decide really soon, i have less than 2 weeks and i can't cancel on this poor girl any more last minute than it already is. any advice is very much appreciated!!

Re: wedding day make up woes...advice needed!!
You should call Oksana and see if she has an opening! I hate myself in a ton of makeup, but I was scared to do my own, lest it rub off after 2 hours. She made me look beautiful (at least I thought so) and it wasn't CRAZY. I only used earth tones... so I avoided the tranny look. I think thats really important - nothing flashy or shiney for me. I wanted to look like MYSELF only a little dressier... good luck!!!
you think you can go to her and take some pictures of what you like.. i went to mac to get my makeup done a few months ago.. and i told them i wanted a natural and romantic look.. and she nailed it.. but i did see them working on other girls and they were caking on the eyeshadow and foundation and stuff..

wow heather, from seeing that pic i can't even imagine that you would ever not look beautiful in lots of make-up. i would love to use her but i'm a week and a half away and i'm sure she's booked...
but that is exactly how i want my makeup, just like yours. it came out awesome!

do you have any pics of your make-up trial? It seems like she should be able to nail it as long as you speak up and are very clear about what you want, and provide pics....mine overdid it at first too b/c I told her natural with a little drama on the eyes, but it was too much drama for me....she toned it down and it looked great (FH loved it )
As long as your comfortably speaking up and have time to work on the day-of I would think she'd be ok....but I don't know!

I am using Rachel Kiley who WILL come to you and she is insanely cheap! She only charges $30 for the day-of makeup! There are pics in my album of the natural way she did my makeup at my trial and I LOVE her! FM me if you want her info.

Re: wedding day make up woes...advice needed!!
Try having another trial with the girl you already booked...make sure to take pics of how you want to look and tell her you were unhappy with the 1st trial because it was too much.
if that doesnt work out then... you should try to stop by the makeup section of a department store, maybe macy's and have a trial done there. I think at the MAC counter they try to use a little more color and a dramatic look, so maybe if you try a counter like Clinique which usually has a more natural look, you and FH will be happier. You can ask one of the girls if they would be willing to do your wedding day makeup, I'm sure they wouldn't mind the extra $$.
Also maybe you can find a makeup artist at a local salon by you. Good luck!

I would call her immediately and set-up another trial. Tell her it wasnt exactly what you wanted and that you need to change some things etc.
Then be VERY specific about what you didnt look and what kinds of colors you want
If you still dont like it then you probably should cancel - but maybe she was just doing what she thought you wanted.

OMG - the same thing happened to me!! I have decided to make sure my Mom is with me when the woman is doing my makeup and ask her to put less on and I have faith it will turn out ok. My FH has told me a few times that I should have way less makeup put on for the day of, he said I didn't look like me!!

Re: wedding day make up woes...advice needed!!
definitely try a different person. Call around, someone will be available! I feel the same way about me and make up and it took me 4 trials before I found someone I liked. Also, the make up may look ridiculous in person but it photographs differently. I thought I looked like a china doll for my e-pics but when I saw how it looked in photographs I liked the make-up a lot more.

if you want to do it yourself you can go to sephora and ask them to teach you how to dress it up a bit. FMIL did this and thought it was great!

AMGBride's sister is a make-up artist in Sayville - she only uses Bare Escentuals - that's a more natural look I think - I think MAC products are a little harsh....
Want her info?

Re: wedding day make up woes...advice needed!!
I have two trials in my album- I didnt feel like either were heavy. My first trial was Karen Wyoski- she's recommended on here & the other I had done at Lisa Bari Make-up Studio in Oceanside you could try them- they were both great about listening to what I wanted
