So it might seem like a pretty trivial thing, but after starting to meet with photographers, I have realized how essential it is to have perfect wedding day nails LOL
I have had UV-gel permanent french set up until a few weeks ago, took them off because it was really starting to weaken my natural nails. I would hope to avoid putting a new set on, but my nails don't grow easily. Now I have short, flaky unpolished stubs. Is there another option I am not aware of? Something less damaging, yet still more resilient than a regular manicure?

Re: wedding day nails
If I knew I'd get it I have had tips or wraps since the 8th grade...I take them off for a cple months every year and try to grow my nails but the damage from years of doing my nails is done!
I'd say try to grow them then for your wedding maybe you could get them wrapped (not as harmful as a whole set of tips)

Re: wedding day nails
well you can try nailtique and let them grow out, see how it goes.
I grew out my own nails but i always do, i dont like acrylic, uv gel or any of that so dont get fake nails, but i do like long nails so i let mine grow. IF i do break one or anything i get silk wrapping, that might be a good option for you.

I think that's the best option too.... I had the UV gels because I had just gotten engaged and was flashing my hand around more Now I realize it wasn't worth it long term... They say the UV gels are less damaging because the substance is 'natural' but at least back in good old high school when I had acrylic I could remove them with acetone. It took a LOT of effort to get that crap off of them!

Dashing Diva has this great product called virtual nails. I got them once and treated my best friend to them and a pedi as part of her wedding gift. They were great because they are so thin they look and feel like a real nail. Also, they last for two weeks only, and automatically come off without the nasty acetone they use at the nail salon. When they do come off your real nail is still healthy and without all the nasty flacking, which is the whole point of the virtual nail. They have several in Manhattan and Brooklyn. There is one in East Hill New York. Here is the address 381 Glen Cove Road East Hills, NY 11577. I always go to the one in Manhattan but they are a huge chain so they all work the same here is the website so you can check it out for yourselfwww.dashingdiva.com

Silk wraps! I had silk wraps straight for YEARS...and then when I soaked them off, the nails were not weak at all. They usually go about $50 for a set.

I would start by going for a regular manicure once a week. Then if you need some extra help before the wedding, I'd do silk.
I dont use anything on my nails but if I don't go for my weekly manicure they start to break. The only thing that really keeps them strong is going for a manicure once a week and NOT picking the polish off!

OMG I had no idea there was a Dashing Diva on LI -- I have been to the one by NYU a couple of times and have always wanted to try the virtual nails. Thank you!!

Re: wedding day nails
I wear acrylic nails all the time but I have since stop wearing them. I wanted to give my nails a chance to breathe. I don't use anything just clear nail polish and my natural nails are growing fine.

Re: wedding day nails
Try OPI Nail Envy. It's a nail strengthener. I would use that until your nails grow out from the acrylics. Then I would use something like Sally Hansen Hard as Wraps or something.

exactly!!! its just keeping polish on them to keep them strong and filing them the right way, if they are not filed the right way then thats how you can get hang nails and how they break.
I only had acrylic once when i was a teenager and thats it. Ive used silk wrapping occasionally but otherwise I just grow my own nails, but everyone is different and for some its easier than others. Mine do grow extremely fast, while others do take longer. Just gotta have a little patience with it.

Hey Lizzie! I meant to ask you when I FM'd you last night, where do you get your nails done because they looked great in your wedding pics and I'm always on the hunt for a good nail salon, lol!

Re: wedding day nails
Tips weaken your natural nails. Give you nails time to fully grow out. BUT, make sure to get weekly manis. That really helps my nails grow out. And don't forget to drink plenty of milk! Calcium makes your nails stronger.

Re: wedding day nails
Let your nails grow out as much as you can before your wedding, make sure to totally grow out any damage from the tips you had. Wraps might be your safest bet if you really want to get something put onto your nails though...
