My church is in Mineola and my reception is in Roslyn. The ceremony is taking place at 4pm and it should only be 30 mins (it's a ceremony not a mass). What time do you think I should start my cocktail hour? Keep in mind it's a Friday night in August, so normally, it'd be about a 10-15 min drive but it may take longer.
I am thinking of starting cocktail hour at 6 or 6:30? I think 7 is too late. I am a little worried that 6 is pushing it tho. FH and I want to take most of the pics at the RH before cocktail hour, if possible; b/c we want to be able to eat and mingle with our guests at that time.
What are your thoughts? TIA!

Re: Wedding Day Timeline
My reception starts at 7:00 and my church is at 4:00. We want to be able to get all our pictures done before cocktail hour too!!

I think 6:30 should be ok. Does your RH have a recommendation?

Re: Wedding Day Timeline
I just sort of feel like the guests who do attend the church are going to get to the RH waaay before the cocktail hour begins, you know? I guess that is part of the reason I want to start it at 6 or 6:30.

Re: Wedding Day Timeline
Do you have a family member or someone who could host an open house in between, or out of town guests who could go back to the hotel? just a few ideas...our ceremony will be at 3, and cocktail hour beginning at 7....

My ceremony is at 4 and my cocktail hour is at 7. I think it's great because you can take all of your pictures and get to your cocktail hour. Also, you have to figure in time for your receiving line and your exit from the church. People will find something to do in between!!

Re: Wedding Day Timeline
Are you sure that the swan club gives you an option of when you want to start it? My RH has strict timelines they follow so that there aren't too many guests milling about at the same time ... so make sure you look into this!

My RH gave a very strict 7pm start time, no earlier!

Re: Wedding Day Timeline
Yeah Swan Club told me that since it's a Friday and there won't be any weddings before mine, I can start anytime I want.
Thanks ladies!

Re: Wedding Day Timeline
Does the Swan club have a room for early arrivers? If the difference is only a half hour (say between 6:30 and 7) they may have some reasonable way of accomodating people.
Speaking from my own experience, Jericho Terrace has a room in the basement that they have some light refreshments in prior to cocktail hour and the ceremony for anyone who arrives between 15 and 30 minutes early. You may want to ask if they have something similar there and if they do, then schedule for 7 and if everyone gets there at 6:30 it won't be a big deal.

A friend of mine did the same thing at her wedding 2 years ago. I am going to call the Swan Club tomorrow and talk to Jordana about this. Thanks!

Re: Wedding Day Timeline
id stick to 7pm and inquire with your hall if you could have a hospitality time before your CH. basically just a place where your guests could sit and hang out

Re: Wedding Day Timeline
I would 7pm.
FH's cousin got married last summer on a Friday and she got married at 4/4:30 and her CH was at 6:30. Half of the guests ended up missing part of it because of getting there or checking in the hotel first, waiting for the shuttle to take them there...it was just a mess.
So when FH's other cousin got married this year, she had her CH moved to 7 - which was later than her sister's and worked out a lot nicer.
