Wedding dilemma

Wedding dilemma

Hi girls!

I normally don't post/vent about personal stuff, but I really need to get this off my chest and maybe get some advice. My first cousin. who by the way I am not close with at all, got engaged about two weeks ago. Well, my aunt called last night and told us they booked a date. September 22, 2007 - 3 weeks before my wedding! And this was after they totally disrespected me and my FH by looking in October 2007 (and November 2007). I have been oevrshadowed by my cousins my entire life, and now they are gettng married three weeks before me! I know this sounds silly, but my dad's side of the family just has no respect or kindness for us at all. AND to top it off, FH and I have known about another wedding we have the exact same day at the exact same time - FH's Very good friend, whom might even ask him to be in his bridal party. Now, normally this would be a very simple desicion for me. My cousin is never there for anything important for me in my entire life, totally did not care when my wedding was since he was obviously looking in the same month, and does give one ounce about my feelings. Honestly as silly as this sounds, I am closer with a mosquito that bit me than I am with my cousin. PLUS, when his sister got married (my other cousin), FH was not even invited (I was 20 and we were dating for 3 and a half years, he had been to many holidays, etc.). Anyway, we would very easily chose the friend's wedding who we are much closer with. BUT, I don't want to upset and disrespect my dad by not going to my cousins wedding. I know this is a year and a half away and I don't have to make a decision now, but it is really bugging me.

Thanks for listening! I feel better already getting it out.

By the way, we thought about going to my cousins ceremony and then our friends reception, but if FH is in the BP, then we cannot do this. If we split up at all, we will remain split up for the day. Otherwise, we go together where ever we decide.

IIf there is a way for you to change your wedding date I would change it to 3 weeks before HER Wedding!!!! (I am so spiteful) don't tell her that you've changed until it's too late for her to change her date!!! lol

I would explain the situation to your dad and, if they do coincide go to the close friend's.

sometimes friends act more like family than the 'real families' do. Talk it over with your dad and see if you guys can come up with a solution. Personally I would go to my friends....

Believe me, if I could I would!! LOL Which is even more of a reason why I would not go to my cousins because I know if he was in a similar situation he would go to his friends.

Thanks girls! My dad last night was weird. At first he left the decision up to us and he even told my aunt that I might not be able to make it because FH is in the BP of a friend for the same day. Meanwhile, my dad knows he has not been asked yet, but he left us with the 'out' ability. But then as the night went on, he seemed annoyed that I would not go to my cousins wedding. My dad left for Florida this morning for business, so I am going to try to talk to my mom tonight about the situation. She will be honest with me because she hates be walked all over by his family also.

I would personally a) ask the cousin to change the date to after your wedding and b) go to the close friends (they already know you might do this - and - you knew abut that wedding first and its a close friend)

When it comes close to the time you need to rsvp go by who is closer to you. While they may be family perhaps your FH's friend is closer to you. You have to do what makes you happy and not what will make your cousin happy.

How funny, I am in almost the exact same situation. Only my cousin is getting married 9 months before me and I am very close with them.

He separated from his wife last year. He just met this woman in January and by February they were planning a wedding. I am pretty annoyed that he had to stick his wedding in there before mine.

And they are getting married the same day that FH's friend is getting married. FH is in the bridal party and this guy is in ours. I told my family I won't be going to my cousins wedding.

I feel bad because it is my godmother's son and I am really close with her. But this is his second marriage and the third engagement since he got divorced.

Oh man. Well at least we can help each other through this one! I feel like everyone that has gotten engaged after me has snuck in before my wedding. I mean granted I am waiting a long time, but still!

this happened to me with my brother. They got engaged several months after me and then decided to plan their wedding a month before me. I know its upsetting, but things like this happen and your day will be just as special regardless who gets married three weeks before.

Thanks! I know it is silly to be upset, it's just that this is the typical 'who cares about anyone else' actions of my cousins. But I know what you mean. Thank you!
