Wedding dress

Wedding dress

Hi - I went wedding dress shopping yesterday, and felt overwhelmed!!! We went to 2 stores - Helen's and Macy's - and I tried on about 25 dresses, but nothing really wowed me.
Both stores told me that I'm cutting it really close and have to order something asap.

I went in thinking I wanted something that I saw in a magazine, but didn't like it at all when I tried it on. Now I really have no idea what to get.

How did you all do when you went shopping? Did you find something right away? How many stores did you go to, and how many dresses did you try on?

Sorry so long - thanks for any input you have!

Don't worry, you will know when you find it!!

BTW if any of the dresses you like are Maggie Sotteros, I was told they can be rush ordered and come in around 3 months.

It took me about 5 salons and 15 dresses before I found one that made me feel like a bride. It was not what I expected it to be, and my mother just picked one and said 'try this one'. Poof there it was.

Have patience and just keep looking. And listen to the sales women!! They may suggest something that you think looks bad on the hanger, but actually looks amazing on you!!

Don't stress about time, yet...

I went to David's loved a dress (one of their collections that has to be ordered, the others can be bought off the rack) and they told me it would take 3-4 months. Well, 1 month later it was in!

I loved this dress, I also went to Helen's and Macy's and never thought I would get a dress at David's Bridal but I did. It was everything I wanted.

Good Luck!

I went to 9 different salons and tried on a billion dresses. Go to as many as you can. You do want to get it soon, as some take 6-8 months to come in.

I just let the woman that was helping me bring out dresses. I had an idea of what I wanted, but I ended up with something competely different.

You do need to focus completely on your dress right now. There are dresses out there that will take longer to come in, and you don't want to be freaking out about it.

Good luck, you'll find it.

Re: Wedding dress

I got my dress at Macy's in Sept for my Feb wedding and they told me the same thing. They also told me to get my BM in there quickly (they got a 15% disc by going there) and I have to wonder if they aren't just rushing us. I'm sure earlier is better if there are problems but geez.

I ordered my BM dresses at the end of Sept and a week or two into Oct they called to tell me that they just found out that the color I wanted wasn't available for my MOH dress. Maybe I'm just too suspicious. You can have it rush ordered but they charge a fee and same for your BM. I didn't want them to pay a fee and I didn't want to cover it for them so we just rushed in a picked dresses in one day. I was glad that the MOH dress didn't come in my color because the replacement is better!! You'll do fine!

Def try on dresses you might not think look good. Let the sales person suggest things- they all look different on you!! Good luck!

Re: Wedding dress

If you don't mind the drive you should definitely check out Kleinfeld. The woman I worked with was Margaret and she was awesome! I only went to play around and see what was out there. She looked me up and down, looked at the pics I brought from magazines and then brought out 3 dresses. I picked the 2nd one! You'll know your dress when you put it on...b/c you won't want to take it off. Don't worry, you'll find 'the one'. But I would have to agree with the sales woman you spoke to. My dress will take 9 months to get in! And I ordered in May. Hope that helps!

Hang in there. I went and tried on sooo many and felt the same way as you. Everyone says you will love dress shopping. I did not love it It is very frustrating, something will come along. Keep Looking!

Re: Wedding dress

Just keep trying, a lot of times the girls in the store would know what would look great on you, so recruit them for help, they are pros! Dont worry, just keep going, when you find the one it will be all the more rewarding

Re: Wedding dress

I went to two stores.. tried on a million... all looked nice... but one of the last ones I tried on looked exceptional and I bought that one.......
you might just be one of those people that can wear anything!!! Maybe think about what theme you want your wedding to have??? traditional, modern.. etc.. then a dress will follow.....
Magazines help but really when you put it on they all look different.... bring some friends and ask their opinion .....

In my experience, what you like in the magazine is almost the opposite of what you wind up with. At least that was the case for me and several of my friends. Don't be afraid to try on something that you think isn't your taste -- you never really know what a wedding gown will look like until you're wearing it! Good luck!

You are so right! I thought I wanted something more form fitting, and when I tried them on, I did not like them at all! I am going to make some appts to go again this weekend.

Thanks for all your comments! I love this site!

Re: Wedding dress

Don't stress!!! I actually just posted a very similar post on Friday because I have literally been to almost every salon on LI and had yet to find anything that wowed me either...so I was totally stressing...

And then on Saturday I made 5 appointments and sure enough in the first place, I found my dream dress!!! Actually it was two dream dresses that are going to be custom made into one for me...

So give it time, I promise your most perfect dress is out there!

This is SOOOOOO true. This exact thing happened to me. My dress looked like a sheet on the hanger.. When I tried it on.. I knew it was the one!!!

Went to 2 salons. Found the one after trying on 30 dresses. It is a Maggie and was in in 1 month.
