Wedding dress

Has anyone bought their gown and taken it for alterations outside the salon? I may be able to get my dress at a discount but it would not be through a salon. I just have to find someone to do the alterations for me. Just wanted to know what your experiences with that were like. TIA

I found my dress at Kleinfelds but ordered it through Netbride which saved me over a thousand dollars. Then, I took it to a seamstress who works for Kleinfeld's but does work on the side. She is a wonderful older Italian woman who lives right near where Kleinfelds was in Brooklyn. She only charged $200 for alterations and I only had to go for one fitting. FM me if you want her contact information.

i had a friend who ordered her dress from Burtons, then took it to Fantasia Bridal in Rocky Point to get it altered because it was closer to her house! I might bring my dress to our regular seamstress so i dont have to travel back and forth to the dress place as well!

I bought my dress @ Kleinfeld too and they asked me if I planned on doing the alterations at the store. Since I live no where near the store, they referred me to a woman in Uniondale who does altertions and comes to your house. I thought that was awesome!

Oh my do I have a story on private alterations... I dropped my dress of at the beginning of october.... no problem, my seamstress used to work for vera wang... well Remember the 2 weeks of straight monsooning we had at the beginning of october?!?! well at about 11 at night i get a frantic call to come pick up my dress because her stdio (basement) was flooding! Heartattack! But so I had to pick it up and now I just got it back in for alterations.... it is great to have her, but kinda scary at the same time
