Hi ladies, I need some help, I started looking for wedding dress about a month ago, my wedding is next Aug. When I first started, I thought I knew exactly what I wanted, strapless, A-line.... now after trying on over 20 dresses, I have NO IDEA what I want anymore. each dress is either too busy on the bottom, or too plain.... etc... Also tried on a few mermaid dresses, thought it looked good, but for some reason, I always feel like i can't pull off that look, and it's not brideish.... maybe im just confused
So far I have been to RK, bridal world, lotus, and a few other places. also have an appt with bridal reflection next week. Can anyone suggest anywhere else to go? I would like go try on more this weekend. How do you know when it's the right dress?
TIA

Re: Wedding dress help
Wedding Salon in Manhasset - ask for Sania. They are a bit pricey, but Sania is fantastic. She will let you walk around the shop and pull the dresses you want to try on. After you've tried on a few she has a knack for figuring out what you like and don't and finding the perfect dresses for you to try on. I started my shopping experience here and it set a really high bar for the rest.

Lillette's in Baldwin! Carol there is fantastic - I must have tried on like 40 dresses, and she was so sweet, and patient with me the entire time.

Re: Wedding dress help
i suggest you hit some local salons. the problem with going to rk bridal and stores like that first are that you usually need to know somewhat of what you are looking for. sometimes it's helpful to go to a salon where someone can help you pick out what you like and dislike...that way you can narrow things down. once you've located the dress, you can try to find it cheaper elsewhere. good luck!

Re: Wedding dress help
I just checked your album and the second to last dress looks GORGEOUS!..but anyway, you might want to look in Burton's Bridal. Myself as well as quite a few others on here have found THE dress there, not to mention their prices are soooo reasonable. The staff is great and so helpful. Believe me, when you put on the dress that is 'the' one..you will def know!!!

I actually like the 5th dress in your album.
If not, try Wedding Salon of Manhasset. That's where I got mine.

thanks ladies for your suggestions. Any place in NJ I should try? I heard that NJ price is slightly lower than NYs?

Re: Wedding dress help
Bring pics, talk with the sales ladies to tell them what you like / don't like, let them bring you dresses to try.
I bout my dress at Bridal Reflections, tried on different styles and found 'the one' there.
I found that looking at racks and racks of dresses is too overwhelming, they all start looking the same after a while even though they are not. Remember that there are not that many different styles of dress. They are just embellished differently. ------ Ball skirt A-Line Mermaid Trumpet Fitted ------- strapless with sweetheart strapless with straight v-neck - with sleeves - without sleeves halter square neck - tank style - with sleeves off the shoulder portrait. ----------- no train sweep train chapel train cathedral train
You will find something. Take a little time and have an open mind.

Bridals by Roma is in Jersey, they're very nice. Helen Bohn Bridal is also in Jersey, they're super-duper snotty if you can handle it.
They're both in Bergen county I believe.

Agreed!! My best friend went there, bought a crazy expensive cathedral length veil, opened up the bag to put it on on her wedding day and....they totally didn't sew a comb in. And I'm not even getting into all the other things that went wrong with them.

Re: Wedding dress help
I would think that where ever you tried on that dress they will have it written down- go there and try it on again... get the name ..
I found my dress at Burtons Bridal.. its not a glamourous place but they did have 3 dresses that no-one else in Nassau did..

Definitely go to Kleinfelds and also try Valentina's Bridal and Doris Fashions both in Brooklyn. Valentina is on New Utrecht Ave. around 75th Street and Doris is on 18th Ave and 68th Street.

I went to all of the big stores and hated it! I loved the personal attention of the owners and designers at the little shops. My dress is from Artemida Bridal. It's reasonably priced and the owner is always available for advice. artemidawg.com

I was just about to post the same thing!! That is a gorgeous dress and it looks great on you.
Some things that might help you narrow your selection are taking into account the time of day you're getting married (i know i am getting married in the day time and felt like a dress with alot of beading would be a little too fancy for me), formality of your wedding (is it semi-formal, formal, black tie?), comfort (some mermaid can be a bit restricting), etc.
