Wedding dress problem - LONG
I have been reading this board for the last six months, but I am now facing my first wedding emergency and need some advice.I ordered my wedding dress in early May to ensure that there was plenty of time in case something was wrong with it (getting married March 2003). I asked twice if the bridal shop needed anything from me and I was told 'No' and that they would call me when my dress arrived.
This week I received a call stating that my dress was never ordered because I did not have a 50% deposit on the gown. I asked why it took 3 1/2 months to call me and ask for more money (I left a deposit when I ordered the dress, but not half). Now I am concerned that I will be cutting it close if the dress arrives late or there is a problem with it. I should also mention that I had the length of the gown pre-measured so that I would not need a hem (there is a lot of detail work at the bottom and they seamstress would have to take the dress apart in order to do the hem). I am worried if the measurements or wrong or the manufacturer makes a mistake there will not be enough time to correct the problem.
Has anyone else had to deal with something like this? Is there anything I can do to make sure the dress arrives early enough? Thanks!

I would speak with the manager and see if there's enough time to make sure that you get your dress. Why does it take so long? Your wedding is several months away. I don't see why there would be a problem. Good luck!

Honestly I think you are fine with time still but I do not like the way the salon handled the order at all. Unless you are ordering some super designer gown that takes a year to come in.Speak with a manager, not a sales rep. If you have confidence in this salon then continue your order, if not tell them you want your money back and order it at another salon.

I was told by one person that the gown would be in at the end of December and from another person that it would arrive in November. How far in advance should you start fittings?

My first fitting is at the end of September. I'm getting married November 8th. I think its generally anywhere from 1 1/2 to 3 months before.

Thanks! I feel better. I was so upset when they called me. I thought they were calling to say the dress was in, and I find out it was never ordered.
I'll keep my fingers crossed that there are no other problems.
