How far in advance do I buy my dress? One of my bridesmaid said I am behind in everything. I think shes crazy bc i just got engaged on christmas. I feel like she is just tying to freak me out. ( that is the kind of person she is) She said I need to buy it at least a year in advance. Is this true?

Well, I am getting married in July of 05 and I ordered mine. A lot of times they take many months, even up to a year to make and get in to the shop. I would start looking, but not freaking out over it. I would say average wait time is 6-9 months.

Yeah, she is trying to freak you out. I ordered my dress ON August 1 and got my dress at the end of OCt. I would at least give yourself 6-7 mos. I also heard that some designers take longer than others.

Dont worry.. Im getting married the end of Feb 05, your getting married early april 05. I havent even started shopping!! I am going next weekend with my sister.. I say 6 mos is enough time.. even if you narrow it down to a certain style you really love or looks great on you.. so when you really start getting in to it you dont waste your time with dresses that dont flatter you.

Everyone I've talked to has a different answer to this question. I think the best advice is to just start looking as soon as you possibly can. That way, if you have trouble deciding, you have some time to figure things out...

There's no reason why you can't start looking, but you definately don't need to order anything yet. It took my dress 6 months to come in, so like everybody else said, give yourself at least that much time.

I agree-give yourself some time to look and ponder just in case. I ordered my dress Aug 2nd for my oct 2004 wedding and still has not come in! 6 months have flown by, but i can't wait to see it!

You have time to order, but I would definately start looking. Some designers take up to a year to complete a dress order, and then you also need to allow a few months (at least two) before the weddig for your fittings.
Also, lie to your dress shop about the wedding date by a few weeks. this can help prevent latenesses

I got engaged in june 03 and am getting married Nov 05.....we booked the hall, photographer ( because we knew him) and DJ ( we used him for our engagement party) but my cousin owns a bridal salon ( CATHY'S BRIDAL in Lindenhurst) and she said 9-12 months before..but it is soo much fun just looking in the mean time....the bridesmaids are not needed until like 6-9 months before...you have PLENTY of time..dont worry!

They told me my dress would take 5 months to come in...it actually took 3 months. I ordered it 11 monts before the wedding.
