Has anyone been shopping for their wedding dresses yet? I found one that I LOVE but am worried that it is too soon to buy but am also concerned about it becoming discontinued by the time it is ready for me to buy.
The store told me that they can order it and not have it shipped until about a year before the wedding so I can have alterations and stuff but today I spoke with a guy in the designer's office and he told me to order and have it shipped regular (specific words were 'do not mention that you are an '08 bride...if they ask tell them '07') and to keep it in my house in a dark closet with towels over it ( ) to avoid having the dress shop hold onto a deposit for so long and avoid any problems that might arise if the dress is discontinued but I think that's a rather weird suggestion since the color might change/fade from just being in my clost over a year in a half.
Does anyone have a similar problem? Any advice??
I've attached a picture of the dress so you can see why I am so desperate for it!!
Oh wow, that dress is lovely. If I were you, I'd be afraid to order it now and have it delivered in a year. Who knows what can happen between now and then? Maybe I watch too much 'Dateline NBC' but I have visions of the store going bankrupt and leaving town with your money and your dress. Or what if your salesperson quits, and has left messy records, and in a year when you come back for your dress, they have no idea what you're talking about? Sorry to be such a downer, but this is your wedding we're talking about, and it can't hurt to be careful. So if you want the dress now, I'd say buy it, maybe have it put in professional storage (I don't know about this part! If your guy said a dark closet and some towels would do, go with that), and have it altered in a year.

The dress really is beautiful...I would find out from the designer specifically how long they plan on keeping it wound (if you are able). also, try to shop it around to see where else you may be able to get it.
I agree with Dava- you hear so many bad stories about people going bankrupt and leaving you SOL...tough call. But if you do get it DEFINATELY get it professionally stored...HTH!

Re: Wedding Dresses
Ladies- Thank you so much for all of your advice!! I didn't even think of what Dava said about being screwed out of luck if anything were to happen at the store that's beyond my control! That's such a good point!
Sometimes I'm so naive when it comes to this wedding planning stuff cause I'm so honest about everything I don't expect people to try and screw me over!
Megan- I'm so sorry to hear how Bridal Reflections treated you!! I don't understand why a store would do that! I mean your willing to spend money there so why can't you look around and try stuff on?? Maybe the guy I spoke with at the design store was right when he said to tell people your getting married in '07 instead of '08!

I'm really sorry that happened! I just find it really weird cause I actually already went there to look at gowns and purchased my gown back in August and no one ever said anything about being too early or not letting me look around. I guess it's all about the sales person you deal with cause I know a couple other girls who have had not so good experiences there but I have to say so far I don't have any complaints and both me and my sister recently placed the order for our gowns with them.
As far as it being too early, it's never to early to look and/or buy IMO so long as you know that it's THE ONE and I would definitely have it professionally stored rather than storing it at my house. My dress will be coming in early and Bridal Reflections said they will hold it for no additional charge if I want them to.

Re: Wedding Dresses
There are a couple of brides who thought that they had found 'the one' and after bringing down their mom and sister and best friend and aunt and neighbor and mailman to see them try it on, they discover that it's not the one.
I'd say definitely keep looking, but if nothing else can even compare or the dress keeps haunting your dreams saying 'buy me' then just go for it. But stop looking after that. I don't think that continuing to look makes you feel more confident about your purchase by not finding anything else that you like as much. More often than not it makes you second guess your decision.

That dress is really, really nice. If it was me I wouldn't order it know because 1- you might find something else that you really like, 2- Your wedding is in a year and a half and the style might change, 3- I would look around for a dress maker so if worse come to worse then you can still have the dress that you want if the y dicontinue it.
