So I am new to this whole wedding planning thing. I am totally overwhelmed with it all. My date is not set until Sept 2011 some think its to soon for us to be planning already & I feel like it is enough time Blah 2 them.
I wanted to know what are the first things I should tackle??? We Already have the reception hall. Any help would be great. Thanks

Re: Wedding Everything.
If youre getting married in a church... you should try and get that done...
flowers and photog/video would be my recommendation... because they can get pretty expensive... and the more time you have to pay the better... and you can lock in some of 2009/2010 prices now....
ETA: Welcome & Congrats!!

Re: Wedding Everything.
I think thats common for churches... they dont have their calendars set for a while... we didnt have to wait long because of our short engagement but we couldnt book them more than a year in advance

Re: Wedding Everything.
another benefit is that you have sooo much time to do research... you can pretty much look at every vendor out there...
what is your RH?

Re: Wedding Everything.
Yes that is what I am hoping on. I think I can get some good deal. Wishful thinking never hurt. Umm what is RH??? lol sry new to this.
Definitely look into the church/officiant next since you have the date already with the Reception Hall (RH).
After that I would start researching and making appts. with Photographers, Florists, and maybe even DJs/Bands (if you want someone who is in high demand).

Jericho Terrace is so pretty! My FSIL is getting married there this coming May.
I believe they are having a showcase there in January. That definitely should be something for you to check out. All of the house vendors (or at least the majority of them) will be there and you can meet with, see kind pf packages they offer, and view their work. If you book at the showcase, most vendors will give a discount. Also, they usually serve Cocktail Hour (CH) food at the showcases so you will be able to sample some of it if you haven't already.

Yes it is beautiful. My Fiance & I feel in love with the place as soon as we walked in. They r rather pricey but I just love it. SO I really MUST BUDGET. We r going to attend that showcase hopefully walk away with some good deals.

Re: Wedding Everything.
Its definately not too soon to be planning! Time really does fly, and before you know it, your big day will be here!
I agree with everyone- definately make sure the church is also available for your date. We actually met with the church before any RHs and had them pencil in a date for us. When we found out what date was available at the RH, we called the church and asked to have our date changed. Since we had already filled out all the paperwork, they were able to switch the day without having us come down.
After the church & RH, we did DJ and Photographer/Videographer. I'm not planning on doing anything else until the late spring/early summer- but the line-up will probably be stds, flowers, gown/tux, limo, invites, favors.
For DJ we went with Tommy's Tunes. We had only met with one other DJ (5 Star Entertainment), but we both knew we had our minds made up about Tommy's For Photographer we went with Thomas Paul. We met with Duet and 12th Night as well. Again- we both had our minds made up with Thomas Paul after meeting with him.

Welcome and congrats!! I also was told by the church not to contact them until 2010, I just want the comfort of knowing I have everything set!! Looking at Bridal Magazines has really helped me.

Re: Wedding Everything.
Welcome and Congrats!!!
When we got engaged, we tried to book the church first; however, they told me they were unable to book weddings two years in advance. I was informed I needed to wait till this December to arrange the date. We ended up booking the reception hall first. Then we moved on to photography and videography. We wanted to lock in the 2009 prices.
