FH's Birthday is in May and Mine is in June. We're getting married in August. We decided last month that to save money we would buy each other our wedding bands for our birthdays. We also decided that we didn't need to do wedding gifts. When we finished up our registry this past weekend, FH who is a watch nut went to the Macys counter to look. He fell in love with a Movado watch ($2K). Then he looked in the Bulova case and saw an almost identical one ($499). He has not stopped talking abou the darn watch (he actually handed me a Movado post card that had come in the mail giving us $500 off a purchase of $2000 or more. I take this as a hint. We really cannot afford to be buying two thousand dollar watches with the wedding so close. Do you think I should pick up the Bulova one and do it as a wedding gift or give it to him on his birthday and say it's an early wedding gift? What do you think of the two watches? He has been so sweet and supportive that I want to run out and buy it now...BTW today is Macy's 25% off then another 20% off sale so I could get the Bulova for like $250.
I say for that price buy the Bulova. They look very similar and if he really likes the look more than the name that's what matters.
I'd wait until the wedding day. Keep playing up the fact that you are worried about money and then you could have someone give it to him the morning of the wedding or you can do it right before the rehearsal dinner.

I would definitly buy the bulova and give it to him as a wedding gift on the wedding day.

I think you're all right...the Bulova is very nice and honestly when you held the two next to each other...they were so darn similar. That's why I was a little confused with the whole postcard 'presentation' last night. Sometimes FH is a little nutty...we don't have a place to live or furniture yet, but he thought I was running out to the Movado outlet to pick up a $2K watch?????
Of course that's the realistic side...the other side is like...well damn it he deserves the pretty movado watch.
And then I say why movado when the bulova is just as nice and so much less expensive!
