Wedding Gift

I was thinking of getting scuba certification for FH as his wedding gift. (me getting certified - he already is) this way i can dive with him on the HM. Does anyone know specifics? I tried researching it but there's like 9 different levels of certification. How much does it cost and how long does it take for basic certification?
