I am going to a girlfriends wedding this Saturday. I use to work for her a few years ago. I don't spend that much time with her but we have stayed in contact. She moved to the city and I live out in Suffolk so it makes it hard. What would be a good gift for my fiance and I to leave?

Re: Wedding Gift
I'm all for cash in a card. I go by the 'pay for your plate rule.' Take a guess at what she's paying for you to be there and give her at least that amount.

Agree 100% cash in a card following the pay for your plate rule :)

I always thought it was double the plate? I wanted to frame her invitation but I think I waited too long. Not sure where I would go for that? I wanted to give a nice gift as well as money. So how much money you think is good?

Framing the invitation is a really nice and thoughtful gift I will steal this idea for the next wedding I attend.

You're probably safe with about $200. To be honest, in my experience, people don't even 'pay by the plate' most of the time (at my sister's wedding, people, even couples, were leaving $30-$50 each). I say be generous if you feel comfortable, but as long as you give them about $200 you should be covered. :)

Thats a great idea framing the invitation. I think no less than $100.00 each meaning you and your guest.

I think $300 for two people is the going rate.

This still baffles me. How do ppl leave $30 at a wedding?? was it in NY?. I'm all for the cash. I do double the plate price, and then some if you're close to the person....and totally agree on the going rate of $300 ( $250-300)

Definitely cash. Give what you are able to give and are comfortable with.

This was in NY, but admittedly it was upstate. Granted, prices are lower upstate, but not low enough to make $30 enough to actually be a gift. :/ I want to say that, sadly, out of Long Island and the City people tend to act ignorant about the amount of money it costs to plan and throw a wedding. I understand if times are tough, but it is pretty absurd. Because of this I don't have very high hopes for my family/friends coming in from off the island.

I think thats crazy people leaving 30-50 bucks!!! I was thinking 300 but I don't want to be cheap either!!! So I'm glad I am on the same page as everyone! I'm going to give that and do the invitation in a nice frame. Thanks ladies!
