my co-worker and her fiance attended my wedding. A little background info...she is 41 and this will be her second marriage. I have known her for 6 years (never met the fiance). We work in the same department at work and do completely different jobs but are on the same manager level at work. Her and her fiance gave us $100 check for the wedding. We just received her std in the mail for their 2012 wedding (even though its a 2nd marriage she is having a big affair). DH and i do not plan on attending. Do we have to give a gift?? Normally i would but i just feel like $100 from them attending was nothing there is no way i want to reciprocate $100...is $50 to cheap or better than nothing? wwyd?

Are they registered? I would give $100 or just buy something off of the registry.

Re: wedding gift help
really wow??? im glad i posted this! if i went i def would have given back what i got but since i wasnt attending i wasnt planning on giving the same amount. they dont have the expense of paying for my plate and stuff. seems most of my friends feel the same way i do bc people that did not attend our wedding did NOT reciprocate the same as when we went for their wedding (we would give $300 and seem to have gotten back $150 for people that decided not to attend). i guess we will have to give it more thought....

Re: wedding gift help
I would give 50$ ,I would give 100$ for not attending usually but since she only gave you that and attended with a guest I would only give 50. We have had about 30 people RSVP no & out of them we had only 4 or 5 give us anything, all of those that did gave 50 or a 100.

Re: wedding gift help
i guess i am just frustrated bc if i think about numbers...her and her fiance coming to my wedding ended up costing me $100 (lets say it was $100 per person and they only gave $100 as a gift). but since i am not attending anything i give her is an added bonus bc she has no expense for me. ugh etiquette

This. If its BBB for example, you could get a $100 item but use coupons and wait for sales so you can spend less.

You know what I have to say you are right about the pocketing the extra money. I have gotten plenty of NO's with nothing....so I guess you are nice to give anything...so $50 is a gift for not going. lol

Re: wedding gift help
I'd send a gift off the registry with a coupon if they have one and spend like $70
