Wedding gift question

Wedding gift question

My sister goes to school in Florida, and one of her friends is getting married down there this month. Does anyone know if it's customary to bring a gift to the reception, or should she just do the NY thing, and bring a card with a check? I'm telling her that a gift would be fine, but I think she'd kill me if she walked into the reception with a gift and everyone brought a card. Thanks in advance!

Re: Wedding gift question

I think a gift is ok - as long as it's definitely something the couple wants (and isn't obscenely large, in which case it should be sent to the couple's house) Actual 'gifts' are much more common at weddings outside of NY, also.

That's exactly what I told her. Thanks!

I think she will be fine either way. If she prefers to give a gift vs. a check, she could always send the gift off the registry so it arrives right before or right after the wedding.

Btw, I went to a wedding in So. California last year and it looked like most people brought gifts.

My brother got married in CA and they mostly got gifts. But if she's nervous about it I think she should go with the check. We all know newlyweds can use the money.
