Wedding gift questions...

Wedding gift questions...

For your engagement/shower, I know the trend is for people to get gifts off your registry - but for the wedding - do you get more money gifts, or registry gifts?

PLEASE don't flame me for this - please - but I thought at your wedding, you tend to get money? Someone asked me if I'll add more to my registry -I never even thought of doing that! I thought we were done with our registered gifts to tell you the truth, I said - I already got everything I wanted from my registry - I don't want anything else - she said - well, you're gonna need to put on more stuff, because not everyone gives money...

We had 300 people at my e-party, at least! We received everything from our registries and then some - and wound up returning a lot at bed bath and beyond to get the cash because we have been thru some hard times, and fortunoffs I returned a lot of stuff and have to go back and return more for credit - I don't want any more stuff!

I went back to BB &B to register for more stuff - and we are planning to return most of it again for money, because that is what we need!!!

Please don't respond with posts about me being selfish or ungrateful - we are very grateful that people bought us gifts and spent money on us, and grateful that they will be doing it again for us. I won't put 'financial gifts only' on our invites - we are just not about getting any more 'stuff' - we need money to get us out of debt, and possibly to think about buying a home - also for our honeymoon which should be cheap because we are going to Thailand, but still - we do need at least a little money to do it...

I just don't want a house full of crap we are never going to use when we can use money to get our lives back on the path we want it to be...

So - what have the brides been thru with gifts they received on wedding day?

Any advice/suggestions?

i have always given $$ as a wedding gift....i'd only give a 'gift' at a shower.

and no flames from me....we have a ton of gifts from our e-party that we should have returned, but we didn't think of it and now its collecting dust in my parents basement.

Nobody will think you are selfish. It's about practical and useful gifts.

I would not add any more stuff to the registry just to please someone. Only ask for what you want. Otherwise, like you said, you are going to return stuff you don't need.

That's all I want for my wedding.

Someone at work asked me to go on a registry. No way, I just moved in with my fiancee and we already have to do a yard sale this coming Spring to get rid of our duplicates.

Some people felt funny about it so I told them to give me gift certificates to Path Mart.

Go for cash $$$$ You will need it.

You'll probably get mostly money at the wedding, but you could always add some more stuff to your BB&B registry and if people buy it, return it for cash.

Thanks ladies - that is what we are going to do - we DO need luggage and a new vacuum cleaner, so I added that to the registry, but everything else is going back!!

We received mostly money at the wedding, plus two registry gifts (@ $50 each) and a few other non-registry gifts.

Registering for BB&B stuff is the way to go.
