Re: Wedding Gifts?
So for the wedding I don't need to register anywhere? I'm having an E-party but I'm not registering because I'm moving out of state and I'm not having a bridal shower.

Re: Wedding Gifts?
We got 4 small gifts at our wedding, but they were all accompanied by money as well. Most of the weddings I have been to, the Bride and groom got tops 3 gifts, the rest was cash!!

Re: Wedding Gifts?
You may want to register for some things so that people who want to get you an enagement gift can have an easier time deciding. It seems to be an unwritten thing in NY to give money as a gift at the actual wedding so there really won't be any confusion for those who accept that way of thinking. If you have people you are inviting that are not accustomed to giving money they the registry would be a big help - otherwise you'll end up with a ceramic elephant - and you might not want it!

We didn't want to register because FH lives with his parents, I live with mine, he's moving to FL next month to take the bar and I have no idea when I'll be moving. We are concerned about shipping costs. We're only taking our clothes and cars down there with us.

Re: Wedding Gifts?
I just noticed your wedding date...you actually have plenty of time before you think about registering so you can definitely hold off for a while until you know where you'll be. Once you're settled then you can have fun with the scanner gun!

Most people give money at weddings. Down the road you can register for your shower etc.

Re: Wedding Gifts?
I think, in NYC, money is mostly given. I think it is known to 'cover your plate'. I have a friend who is from MD and she was shocked to learn that money is given as a wedding gift. I was shocked to learn that she gave a blender as a wedding gift!
