wedding girfts $$

How much on average do you think a couple gives as a gift to the bride and groom?

Also, do you think that a lot of people give actual gifts rather then money?

(I am trying to guess what we are going to get back after the wedding! LOL- though I know not to rely on it!)

I am finding that it totally depends on the people. Some people who we expected to give us a nice gifts and money are not going to and vice versa.

Also, as far as whether gifts or money are more common, I am finding that it also depends on the people. I have asked this question before and gotten mixed responses.

i think 300 is a nice gift.
if we are close to the couple we give 500+.

i am hearing that it really depends on the people.....my friends who just got married said that some people brought gifts and other peoplegave money.. standard---they seemed to get $100 per person................from a lot of people..other people gave $100 per couple.. and some gave a lot more.. it really depended on the people at their wedding....................

I would love on average 300 per couple :) But I am only counting on an average of 200 per couple, lol.

I think the average is $200 per couple, and of course there are those who will go above or under. I also find that friends who are not from NY may give gifts. I think cash is a NY thing, and in other states, people tend to give gifts rather than cash. I was surprised to learn this, but I've heard some friends talk about what nice gifts they gave to people, and I thought they were talking about the shower, but they were indeed talking about the actual wedding.

I would say the average monetary gift we got per couple was 200-250. Some people gave much less (or nothing) and some gave much more. People not from the immediate tristate area tended to give gifts and not money.

Thanks... I really hope I can make most of my money back so we do not start our marriage in the broke house!
I know my closest family will give me great gifts, we are really not sure about what to expect from his family...and work people?

I was thinking that people would give like 150 but I don't know. My friend told me that one of her friends gave her 800 dollars i was like really!!!

I DONT MEAN TO SOUND GREEDY!! lol.... We are just working really hard to not start our marriage with bills! And we are paying for everything ourselves and the wedding bills keep growing and growing!

I really just think people give you what they can afford. For the most part..i am figuring (hopefully) that people will give at least 100-150 a head! We give a lot more (and are not rich) but we just know what people pay nowadays. Average per couple is probably somewhere from 200-350! I know off the bat some people will give us less and others will give triple that! It just depends!!! Make NO assumptions because I heard people who you think will give you a lot don't and vice versa! Don't feel bad or think you are being greedy by talking about this..it's only us! We won't tell!!!

thanks... I just reread what i wrote and didnt want to sound greedy, lol... I know it all depends, I just wanted to really make sure I wasnt off my rocker w/what I thought people give! :)

I second that. I think that in New York people give money as opposed to actual gifts.

I know people who made out soooo well on their wedding and then I know other people who didn't make what they thought they would make. it really is a guessing game

I think it deepdns on the couple, It really depends on what they can afford, because if someone says 200 per couple is normal, some people really cant afford that, so i wont say a dollar amount. Just what the couple can afford to give the bride and groom. for gifts, i have never been to a wedding where someone has came with a gift.

same here....majority was $250....then we had some very generous & a few NOT so generous...everything usually balances out in the end...all in all we made back about what we spent on our RH.

It really depends on the couple and how close you are to them----and as far as gifts over cash, I have only really seen that happen at out of state weddings. FH and I have been to weddings in FL and most people brought gifts from the registry, where as all the weddings I have been to here, I have never once seen a gift.
