Wedding Gown Alteration Nightmare

Wedding Gown Alteration Nightmare

So surprise surprise, my wedding gown came in and it's totally HUGE and incredibly LONG. We paid more to get the length done at the factory to avoid this problem, but guess what, they didn't do it! There's not enough time to send it back. The seamstress has to do SO much work on it and I'm afraid because she has to take off all the beading first, then put the beading back on. I cannot understand how they do this without it looking wrong. Has anyone had this done and does it come out okay?

I am sorry to hear this. That stinks.
I'm sure it will turn out just fine though!

I know that many places order your dress wrong on purpose so they can charge for alterations, but I am just so mad. The sample fit me PERFECTLY and they saw that, yet felt the need to order me 2-3 sizes bigger. And what did they think, I was going to grow 6 inches since I was measured? And then when you complain to the store, they just shrug and say, 'that's what happens, it will be fine.' After you spend thousands!

FM mail Jenny5150, I remember she had a similar experience and I think everything worked out fine.

Very frustrating! Of course they need to order it much bigger even if it fits perfect......how else would they make even more $$$, if they didn't charge for alterations?

Oops....you had already said practically the same thing. I must be getting tired!

Wow, that sucks! I got my dress in Kleinfeld's and they charge a madatory $400 for alterations. I thought that was a bit steep, but at least I can hope that they wouldn't dreder my dress too big. It would just mean more work for them.

Bridal Reflections caps alterations at $265, which I still think is high considering the amount spent on the dress AND the fact that the dress came in wrong. I know technically it's not their fault (Eve of Milady made the dress) but I still find it disturbing that they are completely ripping my dress apart.

Wow, that is so sad! I guess all you can do is trust in the fact that the person doing the alterations knows what they are doing. Good Luck!

This happened w/my dress. They took it up from the middle and left the bottom alone. Is it possible to do the same w/your dress.

I am sorry to hear this. I wish you luck w/everything.

Karen - yes, they are taking it up from the middle BUT that middle area has beading too that extends down from the waist. How did your dress come out - did it look 'altered'?

Try to stay calm. I got a sample dress that had to be altered down several sizes and I also had beading on the top. With a good seamstress the dress will look fine. Wedding dress are designed to be alteration friendly. You may need to have more fitting sessions than normal though, so plan ahead.

My sister in law had that same work done to her dress (she's very short) and her dress did not look altered at all. The beading looked fine after the alterations were made.

thanks to all...I'm feeling a little bit better! my next fitting is 5/19 so if you don't see me on here again after that date...that means I ran away!

My dress only had beading & design on the bottom of the dress & train. My dress doesn't look altered but they didn't have to replace any work. I'm sure your's will come out great.
