I have been going crazy trying to find a salon that carries dresses in large sizes that I can actually try on. It seems that an avarage size 12 is really a size 18 in the bridal world and 18 is a 24! Has anyone had any luck with salons that carry dresses that we can actually try on. I really have a hard time spending 1200+ dollars on a dress I can not try on and have to wait until it is actually ordered. I have been to Davids bridal but wasn`t crazy about the selection.

David's Bridal might have a large selection. I think it is really unfair that many salons carry size 8 and 10s, (which translates into normal clothes 6-8).

I don't know where you live, but if you want to travel to Islip, I went to Adrienne's in Islip - they have a pretty big selection of larger sizes (up to size 30, I think). It's where I ended up getting my dress. It's worth the trip at least once to actually be completely in the dress - I know how you feel. Good luck.

Most of the gowns I tried on were small on me, I could put them on fine, but they did not zip all the way up. I really think you can get a pretty good idea if the salesperson pins/clips the dress on you properly. In some stores, they kind of just held it closed for me. But I found that experienced saleswomen really did a good job pinning the dress, so much so that I felt it fit perfectly.
