I'm getting married in July 2, 2011 and we will be having our reception at the Portuguese American Club. Neither of us like the sit down dinner and really want to do a buffet, and have a small **** tail hour. We have about 250 to 300 people and would just like for everyone to eat and enjoy the night. Has anyone ever been to a wedding that they had a buffet at.. and did you like it??

Re: Wedding in July 2011.. I Need Some Advice
I am having a buffet dinner with a cocktail hour with just passed hor dorves(sp). Its the same with us- we didnt want a sitdown dinner. We wanted more of a party atmosphere where people can pick what they want, how much they want and if they want to go back for more they can. Everyone I have told about this has said ' I love buffets' They all seem excited about it.

you usually get charged the same thing for buffet as a plated dinner. With a guest list of 200-300 people a buffet takes a LONG time. The fastest way to keep the party moving is to have a plated dinner.

We were originally thinking of this idea too.......but then my dad made some good points:
1. Lines will be FOREVER 2. Do you really want your guests walking around with their plates????
What if GOD FORBID someone trips??? And even worse......what if they trip and their food falls on your beautiful white gown?????
As soon as he mentioned that I immediately trashed the idea.

My friend did a buffet for her wedding a few months back. I thought it was great! She only had about 70 guests though, so the line went rather quickly. That might not be the case with a larger guest list.
My only issue with a buffet is that it can be a bit tedious if you have elderly guests or children, and have to make a few trips back to the buffet table to bring them food. Or just walking with heels on a slippery dance floor trying to balance your plate and drink is nerve wracking.

my friend had a buffet. i was in the bridal party so the head table got to go first. great deal for me! the rest of the wedding went one table at a time. i finished eating before some people even got their food.
what if you do a sit-down dinner with fewer courses? salad and entree? for dessert people can get their own bc they usually do when there's a viennese table.
plus there isn't going to be much mingling and dancing while people are getting their food. they'll either be line waiting for food or at their table waiting to get in line.
