wedding invites..DIY or BUY

wedding invites..DIY or BUY

Three part question...
1. At first I was really against the make your own invite thing... Nooowww... I am poor. Has anyone done it themselves? How do they look? I saw an invite that was diy recently and it was really really bad (leese...you got my back girl?). Do they all look that bad? How about velum? Does it look okay? Do you need a laser printer? Where do you get them. I saw invite kits at AC moore but I don't think they had all the response/reception cards. I saw one store on 110 in farmingdale that sold wedding cards, like from the invitation books but blank... Anyone have any experience with either.

2. If I buy them... How much do they really cost? Do I have to spend 500$??? Where to go for reasonably priced ones?

3. If I have A LOT of OOT guests (like over 50%) I know that I need to send them early... So when do I order them? I want to send them like begining of May.. Is that reasonable? The hotel block gets returned May 30th... SO that would give guests 1 month to reserve rooms, if they didn't read the STD and realize that there was hotel cards and website info that explained that people should book early for a holiday weekend out east...ARGGHHH(as I am finding out.. no one did)

TIA... I know that it was 500 questions within 3 questions but I wanted to make sure I covered all bases.

Re: wedding invites..DIY or BUY

Ok..my opinion is there are sooo omany nice DIY ones..BUT the nicest ones end up costing MORE. The three or four DIY ones I looked at would have been about $250-$375 for 125. To me that defeated the DIY part because there was a LOT of work to do.

I actually bought the envelopments pocketfolds and was prepared to do the DIY ones..after tons of decisions on the best prices, where to buy etc..it was just too much for me. I'm also NOT good with printing on a PC and just printing the church directions almost caused me a nervous breakdown.

I ended up buying printed invites( and selling my old ones..lol) and I'm SOOO glad I did...it was still a TON of work to get them assembled, stamped etc...

But thtas just me..

You should ocnsider how much time you really have to devote to it and what style you like. I think if you search around, its not about the money. My printed invites were less then all of the DIY ones I looked at..except for the really cheap ones they sell at Micheals and stuff.

If you need any DIY websites or stuff, let me know , I have a lot of links saved.

Doing it yourself is a lot of work, and you still end up spending at least $100.

There are invites you can get online that come out not too bad.

Try this site - it offeres a lot of makers on discount. (Can't vouch for quality since I haven't ordered from them yet.)

Also, try
http://www.theamericanwedding.com/
The sample invite is free here.

Some of these are very pretty and come out to bellow $200 for 100 invites.

Re: wedding invites..DIY or BUY

I got mine online from Rexcraft. Their website is:
www.rexcraft.com
They were $173 before tax & shipping for 100 invitations with return address printed on outer envelope, reception cards and response envelopes.

I also looked at Invitations by Dawn.

www.invitationsbydawn.com

Both of these companies also have print catalogs that you can order - I think it is easier to see what they look like in the catalog than on the site. I ordered on the site, however, because I felt more comfortable typing in the info myself and proofing it. We considered doing it our selves, but we decided that the amount we would have saved wasn't worth the aggravation or the time it would take to do them.

i am doing mine by myself. It will cost me about $100-200 to do everything. My FMIL is doing most of the graphics work. I went to AC Moore in Carle Place and bought the paper. It will be pink border with Fuschia and See through vellum on top with a little pink bow. I am doing my programs as well. If you need help FM me.

Re: wedding invites..DIY or BUY

this past weekend FH and i actually spent it working on my sisters DIY invites. we had his sister design it, a friend print everything and then we pieced it together. We were trying to print on the envelopes though and because of the paper it was unprintable. FH's friend had to use a different card stock that was printable for the RSVP cards.

i dont get why companies sell paper for RSVP cards and envelopes that you can't write on with a pen/printer/stamp... only a sharpie marker, and that did NOT look good.

Eventually we got the envelopes to work with his laser printer and hopefully they won't smudge in the mailing.

the reason i'm telling you this is because it was a lot of work, in the end the invites looked great, but we easily put about 12 hours into it this weekend between cutting the ribbons, tying them, printing them and piecing them together.

the total cost was only about 120 bucks though. so as long as you have the time, might as well save the money.

1. You are better off making and doing your own. I went through a company in Roslyn NY. I can not say enough bad things about the company. They pay little attention to quality. They did not seal the envelope liners correctly, printed up invitations backwards and forgot to add people to to the invitations. The company was the worst!! The company did not even give me a sample. Please be cautios of ordering your invitations from the company in Roslyn. Please message me for details.
