Wedding Invites...UPDATE

UPDATE:
I understand what you are all saying. However, everyone knows the situation already... and the majority of my friends know that since we were aiming on the 18 person wedding originally, we were going to have wedding 'Week'

Instead of sending out 'Vinnie and jen will be married in a private ceremony and will have a wedding brunch to follow' we figured it would be nicer to do all of that in Florida...

thats where im stuck, on what to write on the wedding week invitations to those not invited to the ceremony...

already about 8 separate couples have said that its a nice idea instead of the usual brunch when the bride and groom come back...

its just a matter of WHAT the cards should say...

___________________________

So, here is where I bother you girls again...

FH and i are going to be wed in a private small ceremony... and spending the week in Disney World with a full itinerary...

Those who were not immediate family/friends we still want to invite up for the Honeymoon week.... just to keep them all involved(Andbecause its nice to have family and friends there and they can turn it into their own vacation!)

how do I send a separate invitation to them? What should it say?

FH and my mom had the idea of writing on the Engagement party invites:

JenniferMarie and Vincent will me married in a small intimate ceremony in 2009.

You are invited to their Engagement Party to celebrate the happy couple's beginning of a new life...

This way, they come in with an open mind, and when they hear its only 40+ people they will not assume they are invited to the wedding/recption?

But I wanted them to be included during the week somehow... like, we will be doing the Spirit of Ohana dinner, and a night at the house of blues, and things liket hat, where everyone needs to purchase tickets, so I figured we will send an itinerary and make it clear that they are invited to the 'Honeymoon Week' and that their PRESENCE is their present.

Anyone have any ideas HOW to word their invite?

Re: Wedding Invites...

I think it will be a problem because they will think ok I am going to DIsney to celebrate with them but I am not as important or close to be in the actual wedding.... I think you should stick only to the people invited to the ceremony, remember that when you make the list not everyone is going to be able to make it so keep that in mind, JMHO

In all honesty, and this is just me, I would be highly offended if someone didn't invite me to their wedding but expected me to want to go all the way to Florida just to hang out with them before or after their wedding so I'm not sure what to say here.

I'm sure other people may have a problem with me saying that, but it's only how I would feel if I received an invitation of this sort. I dont mean to offend you or tell you not to do it, I'm just saying others *might* take this attitude if given one of these invitations.

A friend of mine did this.. with a caribbean island.......what she did was talk to the people she WANTED to come down to the island FIRST.. explain to them that she would love them to come......... but she would understand if they can't afford it.... and told them all to think about it......

Then she sent out 'beach theme' invites that said... something to the effect of
'Come celebrate our wedding with us in. _________'
We would love to have you and yours join us!

For travel and pricing information ___________ (she had a website set up with all of the information)

and then she used the whole 'Your presence would be a present' saying so that people wouldn't feel obligated to BRING GIFTS

A handful of people went and made a vacation out of it... some people just couldn't.... because of money! but it was exactly what she wanted in the long run.

Re: Wedding Invites...

I have heard that you should only invite people to the engagement party who are invited to the wedding. So you should say something about the ceremony being small, although you might still have some people who are offended. I think I would be a little upset to have to go to Disney and not be able to see the ceremony. Even though it is a vacation, it is a vacation you are choosing for them to celebrate you. Some people might have other ideas about spending there vacation time being that they don't get an invite to the wedding. It is iffy. I love going to weddings and would be a little upset to miss out, and I know not everyone I know loves Disney. It is one thing to do the whole destination wedding for a week, but I don't know about the destination without the wedding. I like Disney, so if it was a friend of mine I would do it, even without the wedding invite. I would ask opinions of people who are going to be at both, like parents, siblings any friends that would know how your other guest who are not attending the wedding would feel.

I'm not sure about this either - I have to be honest and say that I wouldn't be too thrilled if I was invited to an eparty where I wasn't invited to a wedding and then asked to come hang out with the bride and groom - even if I do love Disney - hahaha. I know this is a sticky situation but I don't think inviting them to hang out with you guys is going to go over well

those not invited to the ceremony all know that the wedding is less than the immediate family members though...

so it will not come as a surprise...

yeah , you are right. We did do that. We spoke to alot of people yesterday and asked them what they though.

Alot of them said that they had been invited to an 'After' reception reception, where, the bride and groom get married away from home and then have a brunch when they get back. But, theyall agree that Disney would be more of a reason...and I quote 'To get their a$$es out to Florida'. lol

Ladies, after reading the original post and the update is it clear that mrs Fazz is not lookin for opinions on the way she is choosing to have her wedding but is looking for wording opinions...even if we might not have the ceremony/week the way she would like to it is not our wedding...so let's answer the question at hand here!

Personally, I say do whatever you want..small ceremony and wedding week sounds great to me if that is what you have as your wedding vision!

So let's see...i might even think about sending out 2 different invitations as much of a pain as it would be...it might make the stickiness of wording a bit less...

lol its MY FAULT i didnt word it right and it was early in the morning...

Yeah that was my problem, do I send out the two, do i word them differently, etc...

I am not sure what to write on them though...

a friend of mine sent me the following:

Emily and Joseph were wed in a private ceremony on June 26, 2006
To celebrate their wedding, you are invited to a celebration week in the Hamptons the week of August 21st
Details to follow.
And there was a RSVP card with WHAT days you can be there etc..

Re: Wedding Invites...UPDATE

I understand they can't all be invited to the small reception but couldn't they go to the ceremony if they wanted to? Is there a maximum number of people the space could hold thats just too small for everyone? If they're already there and they know they're not going to the reception and they're okay with that, don't you think some people may want to actually SEE you get married anyway?

I know...
In all honesty, if it was up to me, It would be 18 people and no 'wedding week' but its not....

Its actually 28 people invited, not 40 (not including the bridal party)

The reception is a small outdoor room next to the pavillion, it only holds that amount. we cant go past the 40 or else we have to pay for the 100 person room which is way too expensive...(210 a person not including cake, etc)

I think you should do 1 invitation for everyone and add a card to the people that you are inviting to the ceremony something like 'we are having a private ceremony to celebrate the union of (your and FH name) is a intimate setting but we will like you too be part of this magical moment'

Wow that is expensive! It sounds like you have it all figured out now. Even if some people are upset, it isn't going to be anyone really important to you because those people will either be there or will understand. And it is your wedding!

I like the wording, and b/c its a small wedding im sure you'll see or talk to everyone before invites even go out. that way you'll be able to tell them in advance. you can also put together a wedding website and explain it on the websit, short and sweet of course. add the website to the bottom of the engagement announcement.

Anyone have any ideas HOW to word their invite?
