Wedding last night at JT w/ pics - SORRY a bit long!
So we had a great time last night at the wedding! I've put a few pics in... since it was FH's work buddy's wedding, I didn't know ANYONE so it was a little more awkward than I realized it would be to take pictures. The bride is Indian and the groom is Italian, so it was really cool to see the cultural mix. Most of her family was in traditional dress, and all of the women had gorgeous saris (sp?) on. I've never really seen them up close and they are just exquisite!
Cocktail hour - this was interesting... there were two other weddings going on so it was a bit chaotic when we walked in. The woman directed us 'up the stairs, first door on the left.' So that's what we did. We went in, headed straight to the bar, ordered drinks and FH started scanning for his other work buddies. I said 'Mike i don't see anyone in Indian dress...' and he's like 'I was just thinking the same thing, how do we know if we're in the right place?' I spotted the place card table, so we made a beeline for it. There was a huge picture of the bride and groom. FH goes 'yeah, that's not them at all.' YUP - WE WERE IN SoMEONE ELSES WEDDING!!!!
I was mortified, but no one had even batted an eye at our presence. So we walk out and we're like ok now what. All the doors were closed, but we see the staircase, so he's like well she said up the stairs so maybe that's what she meant. We go up the stairs, and again, all the doors are closed. So I said let's go back to the lobby and retrace our steps. We happened to see a few traditionally dressed Indian women, so luckily we just followed them. But, we wondered why there was no sign outside the doors. The room was the first room up the first few steps, but there were more steps right after it, so when the woman said 'up the stairs'... It was really hard to tell with all the doors closed. Granted most guests will immediately know if they're in the wrong cocktail hour, but there are always a few, like work people as we were, that will not have a clue.
Anyway cocktail hour food was incredible - holy freakin RICE BALLS - i ate like 50 of them!
Reception - the penthouse room was beautiful!! I am not sure how many people its supposed to fit, but I know there were at least 19 tables in there (from what I could see of the table numbers) and our table had 12 people although it didn't seem like every table was for 12, and it was a little tight.
The flowers were gorgeous - classic Pedestals arrangements, I called that right when we walked in, and confirmed later with the groom.
Appetizer was yummy (like a mozzarella tomato thingy in an open pastry shell); pasta was good - just a mini rigatoni in a tomato sauce but i was pleased that it was cooked al dente because sometimes it's overcooked at a wedding because of the sheer amount of pasta they have to make). Salad was ok - it was a ceasar, which FH and I both love, but it was a little soggy for his taste. I happen to like it when its all drenched in dressing, but he doesn't - so that's a matter of taste. Entree we had about 6 or 7 choices. FH had chicken sorrentino which he said was 'ok' (that's his description for pretty much everything). I had the pork chop, which i didn't realize was a 'chop' when I ordered it (i thought it was like a medallion off the bone). the sausage/apple stuffing that came with it was great, but the pork itself was extremely difficult to cut. The lady next to me ordered the shrimp oreganata, and had some sort of issue with it although I don't know what it was. Then again, she did not eat ANYTHING except the dessert, so who knows. I heard the salmon was excellent. The dessert was good - it was cannoli shell filled with ice cream and wedding cake.
I have one complaint - i was constantly out of water, wound up having to drink FH's water, and then both of our glasses sat empty for about a half hour before they came around to refill it. Usually I don't even touch the water so I don't notice these things. But i happened to be very thirsty last night, and I was a little disappointed that I had to wait quite a bit of time for the water to be refilled.
Overall, we had a great time, and despite being wedding crashers we had a good laugh about that!!
